Description
Pellegarde is a Holy Knight of Camelot and one of the Four Evils, the elite group of Chaos Knights who serve King Arthur in The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse. He is known as the Black Knight. A middle-aged man of forty, he is tall and heavily built, standing about 1.83 meters and weighing around 120 kilograms, with short spiky dark hair, dark eyes, and a large nose. He wears a suit of black full plate armor with a spiked helmet, an orb on the chest, and a high-collared cape; beneath the armor he has a rugged, bearded face that suits his rough and direct manner.

In personality, Pellegarde is jovial, laid-back, and carefree. He genuinely enjoys fighting strong opponents and seeks out powerful warriors regardless of whether they are friends or enemies, men or women. He is bold, straightforward, and warrior-like in temperament, and among the Chaos Knights he stands out because he has no taste for cruelty. His love of combat and his eye for talent lead him to take an unusual interest in Percival, the young Knight of Death whom he is ordered to eliminate. Rather than kill Percival, he becomes fascinated by the boy's potential and decides that he wants to train him personally, even going behind Arthur's back to pursue this goal.

Pellegarde's motivations are rooted in his family. He once had a son named Dick, who died at the age of four after falling from a horse. While Pellegarde himself came to accept the loss, his wife Fiona could not bear it. King Arthur used his power to give Pellegarde a kind of false paradise in which he could live alongside a reconstructed semblance of his dead son, and Pellegarde serves Arthur out of deep gratitude for this gift. This obligation to his sovereign, born from love for his family, is the foundation of his loyalty and the source of his later tragedy.

In the story, Pellegarde first appears when Percival descends from the remote land known as God's Finger during his journey of revenge against his father Ironside. Pellegarde is Ironside's longtime colleague and friend among the Camelot knights. During their first clash, Percival's rare magical power, the Hero-type ability Hope, awakens under the pressure of Pellegarde's assault. Pellegarde later encounters the protagonists again when the paths of Percival, Tristan, and Lancelot converge, and he recognizes them as the Four Knights of the Apocalypse reunited at last. While his companions differ in their opinions on how to handle the boy, Percival attempts to convince Pellegarde to abandon Arthur and join their side, a reflection of the strange mentor-like bond that has grown between them despite their opposing allegiances.

Pellegarde's notable ability is called Pyre, a fire-based power that lets him generate fireballs and create massive explosions. His fiery magic can be used for both offense and defense, making him a highly destructive combatant. In addition to his magic, he is physically formidable, with a presence that other strong fighters compare to solid rock; even a restrained show of strength is enough to send a powerful opponent flying and leave them injured. As one of the Four Evils, he is counted among the strongest knights in Camelot's service.

Over the course of the story, Pellegarde develops from a carefree and seemingly simple warrior into a tragic figure caught between gratitude toward Arthur and his growing respect for Percival. His desire to nurture a gifted young fighter and his devotion to the impossible happiness Arthur granted him pull him in opposite directions, and Arthur's growing madness increasingly pressures him toward a bitter end. His role in the narrative is that of a guiding enemy: a powerful opponent whose battles push Percival to grow, and whose personal tragedy illustrates the human cost of Arthur's rule.
