TV-Series
Description
**Marbas** belongs to the Thirteen Calamities of the Wasteland. Originally human centuries ago alongside fellow Calamities like Naberius, Astaroth, Sitri, and Dantalion, soldiers murdered them all. Their grief-stricken master then transformed their souls into demons, an act which cursed the master into becoming the Three-Eyed Demon.
Physically, Marbas manifests as a bipedal lion with tan fur, a large vermilion mane extending past his knees, and scarlet eyes featuring vertical slit pupils. He possesses forward-curving black horns, sharp claws, and a tail adorned with a gold ring that suppresses his power. This ring transforms into a staff wielded by his contractor during his "limited release" state. He stands over two meters tall and typically wears a black suit. His human guise presents fair skin, long vermilion hair, and scarlet eyes.
His personality maintains a stoic composure and cool-headedness, coupled with fierce protectiveness. Centuries of boredom initially fostered apathy towards existence until encountering Wisteria Langley, an orphan girl in Victorian England uniquely able to perceive him. He visited her nightly, sharing stories of his past, forging a bond. When Wisteria was sold to a sadistic noble, Marbas intervened despite the peril—demons perish if aiding humans without a pact. As his body began crumbling, Wisteria saved him by forming a contract, offering her eyesight. Her sole wish bound them permanently: for him to remain by her side.
This pact became a catalyst. Though initially motivated by obligation, Marbas developed profound devotion to Wisteria's safety and emotional well-being. He prioritizes her in all circumstances, destroying threats against her even at personal risk. He harbors dislike for her brother, Snow, due to Snow endangering Wisteria and rejecting their bond, yet fights to protect Snow when his loss would sadden her. His attachment deepened into a desire to travel the world with her indefinitely. Romantic undertones appear, such as blushing at her matured appearance in an illusory world and openly declaring his commitment to live alongside her until her death.
His abilities focus on transformation, encompassing his human guise and power amplification through "limited release" when Wisteria activates his ring staff. Key relationships define his interactions: his foundational partnership with Wisteria forms his core motivation; his antagonism with Snow reflects clashing loyalties; and his frenemy dynamic with Naberius involves frequent quarrels masking mutual respect among the Thirteen Calamities.
Throughout their journey, Marbas transitioned from existential detachment to purposeful living. He resolves to seek other Calamities not for conflict but connection, exploring the world alongside Wisteria as equals. This evolution marks his arc from isolation to finding meaning through guardianship and companionship.
