Description
Minato Wataya is a deliveryman assigned to the neighborhood of Masato Tsuge. He is twenty-three years old and works as a delivery rider, though his true aspiration is to become a professional dancer. During his college years, he was a member of the dance club alongside Rokkaku, who remains a friend. He has short, light-blonde hair that is dyed and a youthful face with a slight babyish quality; in the manga he also wears earrings.
On the surface, Minato can initially appear cold or guarded, but he gradually reveals a warm and sociable personality. He enjoys being around people and has many friends. Tsuge, upon their first meeting, describes him as a paripi—a term for someone who is outgoing and enjoys partying. Despite his social nature, Minato is not overly confident. His more reserved side shows when he first encounters Tsuge’s unusual behavior; he is wary and unsure how to react.
Minato’s feelings toward Tsuge shift dramatically because of a cat. He had previously cared for a stray cat named Udon in a park but could not adopt it. When Tsuge takes Udon in, Minato begins to look forward to making deliveries to the Tsuge household just so he can visit the cat. This shared affection for Udon becomes the foundation for their relationship. Minato’s initial annoyance at Tsuge’s oddness transforms into fondness as he sees Tsuge’s kindness toward the animal.
Minato’s role in the story is as a supporting character who forms one half of the secondary romantic pair. His arc involves moving from frustration and suspicion to trust and love, facilitated by the gentle bonds formed around the cat. He has no magical abilities; his notable skills are his competence as a delivery rider and his dancing talent, which reflects his ambition. Over the course of the narrative, his guarded exterior melts, allowing his warm and passionate nature to emerge fully.
