Description
Megumi Natsume is a nineteen-year-old professional fighting game player and a core member of the Nitro Squad, which is the competitive gaming division of the Cyber Battalion esports organization. Her online gamer tag, used in tournaments and online matches, is Nu2meg, a creative remix of her real name using English letters and numbers. In the full-dive VR world of Shangri-La Frontier, she adopts the character name Pepper Cardamom and chooses the alchemist class, a decision that allows her to support her team from a different strategic angle than direct combat. Known affectionately among her teammates as the Potato Demon due to her legendary and rapid consumption of french fries, she is a vibrant and determined individual who balances a logical, data-driven approach to gaming with a quirky and unfiltered personality.

Standing at 163 centimeters tall and born on May 12th, Megumi presents herself as confident, honest, and a bit of a prankster. She possesses a strong will and a deep belief in her own abilities, yet she avoids arrogance, preferring to trust in her rigorous preparation and analysis. Her personality shines most in her interactions with others; she is known for her open and friendly demeanor, but also for her amusing awkwardness, especially when trying to express her romantic feelings. Outside of gaming, she maintains her physical and mental balance through cooking and practicing yoga. She harbors a notable disdain for health-conscious foods and for players who do not take their matches seriously.

Megumi’s primary motivation is to become the top fighting game player in Japan, a goal she pursues with dedication as a starting member of one of the country's strongest teams. Her role in the story becomes particularly prominent during the GGC (Global Game Competition) arc, a major fighting game tournament. Driven by her deep admiration for her teammate and secret crush, Kei Uomi (known in-game as Oikatzo), she cancels her prior commitments to fully support the team in this competition. Her dedication to the sport is absolute, and she sacrifices personal time to compete at the highest level alongside her inspiration. Her ultimate dream is to prove her strength on a national stage and stand as Japan's best, a path that brings her into direct conflict with her biggest rival.

Her key relationships are central to her character development. Her most significant relationship is with her teammate Kei Uomi. Megumi is openly, albeit awkwardly, in love with him, a fact that is obvious to nearly everyone except Kei himself, leading to many comedic situations. She respects him greatly and uses every opportunity to spend time with him. Her primary rival is Sylvia Goldberg, the undefeated number one fighting game player in the United States. Megumi views Sylvia as a formidable obstacle in both her professional career and her romantic interests, as Sylvia is also a rival for Kei's attention. Initially skeptical of Sunraku and Arthur Pencilgon when they are brought in as temporary substitutes for the GGC, she quickly comes to respect their unconventional skills after losing to them in practice matches. She humorously dubs them Facehidden and Nameless, respectively, based on their real-world habits of hiding their identities.

Megumi’s development is most evident in how she confronts and learns from her defeats. Her fighting style is highly methodical and logical, relying on data analysis and controlling the flow of the match. Her greatest weakness is losing her rhythm when an opponent disrupts her carefully laid plans. This flaw is exposed during the GGC when she faces Sunraku, whose unpredictable, extraterrestrial playstyle throws her completely off-balance, leading to her defeat. While a harsh lesson, this experience highlights her limitations as a player who struggles to adapt to pure chaos. However, she is a good sport, acknowledging Sunraku's talent and incorporating the experience into her growth as a gamer. She later decides to take Shangri-La Frontier seriously upon learning that Sylvia Goldberg has entered the game, seeing it as a new platform for competition and an opportunity to prove herself.

Megumi’s notable abilities lie in her sharp, analytical mind. She is a specialist in fighting games, excelling at breaking down opponent patterns and formulating counter-strategies based on hard data. In her favorite game, Galaxia Heroes Chaos, she mains a character named Yggdramia, a villain who excels at setting plant-based traps and controlling space, reflecting her own preference for strategic, calculated play over raw aggression. Beyond her gaming skills, she possesses the unique real-world ability to eat french fries in astonishing quantities and at great speed, a trait that has become a running gag and a defining part of her public persona.
