Description
Alaba is a non-player character from the world of Shangri-La Frontier who belongs to the fishman race, specifically taking on the appearance of a shark. His physical design reflects these traits, giving him a sharp, imposing, and distinctly non-human presence that sets him apart from many other inhabitants of the game.

Within the game's narrative, Alaba is introduced during the exploration of the Abyssal City of Luluias, a dangerous area tied to one of the Unique Monsters known as the Abyssal Ctarnidd. He is found being attacked by monsters, and the protagonist, Sunraku, comes to his rescue. In order to repay this debt, Alaba decides to join Sunraku on his journey, acting as an ally and guide.

By nature, Alaba is described as having a forceful and energetic personality that tends to sweep others along. However, his behavior is noticeably tempered by the influence of a mark left on him by Sunraku, which suppresses his more chaotic tendencies and makes him more reserved than he would otherwise be. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, he has gained considerable popularity among players, even inspiring a group of fans who admire him greatly.

Alaba's background is deeply connected to the lore of Luluias. His grandfather is a legendary figure among the fishmen, known for being the only one to ever survive an encounter with the Unique Monster Ctarnidd. The grandfather managed to pierce Ctarnidd's left eye and escape the abyssal city, an act that passed down fragmented but crucial knowledge about the area and its dangers to his grandson. This inherited knowledge makes Alaba a key asset for navigating the mysteries of Luluias.

In terms of abilities, Alaba is originally a powerful warrior whose true strength is tied to his favored weapon. This weapon is a greatsword named Ocean Gorge, a unique blade possessed by a spirit named Nereis. The bond between Alaba and Nereis is exceptionally strong, described as a mutual and deeply affectionate relationship that is even noticeable to outside observers like Sunraku. At the point he meets Sunraku, Alaba has lost this sword to an enemy, which significantly limits his combat potential. Despite this handicap, he remains brave and resourceful.

His key relationships include his alliance with Sunraku, formed out of gratitude, and his role as a protector for other non-player characters. When the player characters are logged out of the game, Alaba takes it upon himself to guard important NPCs such as Emul, Ceecrue, and Stude, demonstrating his loyalty and sense of duty. His development throughout the story involves navigating the loss of his weapon, honoring his family's legacy, and serving as a steadfast companion in the harsh environment of the abyssal city.
