Description
Narita Top Road is the main protagonist of the Uma Musume Pretty Derby: Road to the Top ONA and a student at Tracen Academy. She belongs to the 99 generation and is known by her classmates and fans as Top Road or Topro. She has short blonde hair and amber eyes, and she always wears a small ear clip decorated with a translucent blue star-shaped ornament on her right ear.

As a child, Narita Top Road was shy and anxious when racing, but she gradually grew into a confident and spirited competitor. She is an honor student and serves as the president of her class. Her personality is cheerful, optimistic, and overflowing with positive energy. She pushes forward no matter the difficulty, driven by a sincere desire to live up to the expectations of her fans and everyone who believes in her. She is quick to recognize the strengths of others and openly praises her rivals, which makes her well‑liked among her peers. Despite her natural charisma and star‑like presence, victory often seems just out of reach, and this only strengthens her resolve to keep striving for the top.

Her primary motivation is to repay the support she receives from her classmates, trainer, and supporters. She runs not for personal glory but to make those who cheer for her proud. This sense of responsibility sometimes leads her to put immense pressure on herself, and she can feel overwhelmed by her efforts to please others.

In Road to the Top, Narita Top Road is the central figure of a three‑way rivalry alongside Admire Vega and T.M. Opera O, mirroring the historical 1999 Japanese Triple Crown races. Her role in the story is to pursue her dream of standing at the top while learning to handle both victory and defeat. She loses the Satsuki Sho and the Japanese Derby, each time feeling devastated because she fears she has let her supporters down. After the second loss, she breaks down crying, and later admits to her trainer at summer training camp that she is afraid of disappointing everyone. With her trainer’s encouragement and the unwavering support of her friends, she regains her confidence and ultimately wins the Kikuka Sho, achieving a climactic victory that she shares with her rivals.

Her key relationships include her close friendship with Jungle Pocket, who is her dorm roommate, and her respectful but intense rivalry with Admire Vega and T.M. Opera O. She tries to reach out to Admire Vega, who initially rejects her, but Narita Top Road insists on offering the encouragement she believes Vega needs. This persistence plays a part in Vega’s own emotional breakthrough. Her relationship with T.M. Opera O is more straightforward; they share a mutual respect and exchange encouraging words before the final race.

Notable abilities in the game and anime include a racing style that emphasizes speed, stamina, and power. Her signature skill, called the Superb S‑Curve, allows her to take tight turns and navigate obstacles with agility. She is most effective in long‑distance races, where she can use a finishing burst of speed if she is near the lead near the end of the race. Off the track, she has a deep passion for helping friends in need and is always ready to support those around her, even when it takes an emotional toll on herself.

Narita Top Road’s character arc is one of perseverance. She begins as a talented but sometimes anxious runner, grows through painful losses, and eventually learns that her worth is not defined solely by winning. Her determination never stops; as she says, she is not talented, she just never stops trying. This relentless spirit, combined with her warmth and genuine care for others, makes her a beloved and inspiring figure in the Uma Musume world.
