Description
Fargo is a noble with striking blue hair who serves as a secondary antagonist in the early narrative. He holds the military rank of chiliarch and is the brother of another character named Geranpan. From his introduction, Fargo is established as a cruel and treacherous individual, though his malice is initially concealed beneath a veneer of civility. He presents himself as an ally to the protagonists Wied and Aht, feigning ignorance about local bandit activity while secretly orchestrating sinister operations. This duplicity is a defining trait, as he manipulates others by offering false leads about a missing princess to lure them into deadly traps.

Fargo's motivations are rooted in petty malice and self-interest rather than complex ideology. His actions are driven by anger and a desire to eliminate those who interfere with his plans, specifically targeting the child Keffi for disrupting a human trafficking operation involving girls from Miruel-Mirael. This lack of nuance defines his role as an unambiguous villain who revels in cruelty, demonstrated when he personally murders one of his own brigand subordinates to prevent him from revealing their shared schemes.

As the story progresses, Fargo's role shifts from a deceptive noble to a direct combatant. After his initial treachery is exposed, he ambushes Wied and Aht by conjuring a horde of undead monstrosities through forbidden magic. Simultaneously, he leads an assault on a refugee camp, slaughtering Keffi's adoptive parents and using dark arts derived from Wischtech to transform them into a horrifically deformed creature. In a later confrontation with the protagonist Köinzell, Fargo undergoes a further grotesque transformation by fusing the bodies of the kidnapped fairy-blooded girls to his own form, granting him powerful tentacle-like appendages that he uses as weapons.

In combat, Fargo demonstrates mastery of dark necromantic magic, specifically the forbidden arts of Wischtech, which allow him to raise the dead and warp living flesh into monstrous shapes. His abilities are formidable enough to overwhelm ordinary soldiers, but he is ultimately outmatched by Köinzell's supernatural swordsmanship. During their fight, Köinzell severs both of Fargo's arms, severely crippling him. Despite this grievous injury, Fargo survives through his magically enhanced physiology and manages to escape immediate death when the arrival of witnesses forces Köinzell to retreat. His key relationships are largely antagonistic; he betrays Wied and Aht, hunts Keffi and Peepi, and serves the more powerful Landgrave Schtemwölech as a minion. He also shares a notable dynamic with his brother Geranpan, whom he stabs through the heart, though this act does not result in Geranpan's immediate death. Fargo's development is defined by his escalating physical corruption, transforming from a scheming noble into a monstrous entity as he increasingly relies on dark magic to achieve his ends, ultimately becoming a horribly malformed servant consumed by his own cruelty.
