Jin Mazama is a human student at Seton Academy, an institution primarily attended by anthropomorphic animals due to declining human populations. His full name incorporates a pun; the kanji for "Jin" (人) and "Ma" (間) from his surname combine to form the word "human" (人間), directly referencing his species.
His hatred of animals stems from a childhood incident where he intervened to protect a wolf pup (later revealed as Ranka Ōkami) from bear cubs. Despite his fear, he attempted to help but was severely beaten. Afterward, the pup licked his wounds in gratitude, which Jin found painful and humiliating. This experience convinced him humans and animals could never understand each other, fostering lasting resentment.
