Description
Jin Mazama is a human student at Seton Academy, an institution primarily attended by anthropomorphic animals due to declining human populations. His full name incorporates a pun; the kanji for "Jin" (人) and "Ma" (間) from his surname combine to form the word "human" (人間), directly referencing his species.

His hatred of animals stems from a childhood incident where he intervened to protect a wolf pup (later revealed as Ranka Ōkami) from bear cubs. Despite his fear, he attempted to help but was severely beaten. Afterward, the pup licked his wounds in gratitude, which Jin found painful and humiliating. This experience convinced him humans and animals could never understand each other, fostering lasting resentment. During his third year of middle school, intending to mock Seton Academy's information session, he encountered a cat-eared student (Hitomi Hino in disguise) who gave him a campus tour. Unaware of her true identity, he enrolled hoping to reunite with her.

Initially, Jin displayed overt hostility toward animals, particularly Ranka, physically rebuffing and insulting her. He formed a cooking club with Hitomi as a refuge from animal students. Despite his disdain, he frequently aided animals using extensive knowledge of their biology and instincts, such as exposing Chloe Mashima's zebra lineage by revealing her donkey-like tail and employing bear spray against attacking bears. His human traits—including endurance running (outpacing a camel in a desert race), precise throwing, and cooking skills—proved advantageous in various scenarios.

Jin's character evolved through interactions with Ranka and the cooking club. After Ranka defended him from bears, he reluctantly joined her pack, marking the start of his gradual acceptance of animals. Though initially infatuated with Hitomi, he developed unacknowledged feelings for Ranka. When Ranka ran for student council president to distance herself after overhearing Jin confess to Hitomi, he challenged her election bid. During their competition, he privately admitted his attraction to her before withdrawing.

A pivotal development saw Jin stampeded by elephants, leading to a coma. He awoke ten years later to discover Ranka had died. Heartbroken, he used a time-leaping device created by Miyubi Shisho, repeating events 145 times to alter this outcome. In the revised timeline, he openly supported Ranka and her pack at their graduation, signifying full reconciliation with his past trauma.
