Description
Dark Might is the primary antagonist of the My Hero Academia: You're Next film. His true name is Baldo Gorrini, also spelled Voldo or Valdo Gallini, and he is the head of the Gorrini Crime Family, a powerful criminal organization based in Europe. His public persona and appearance are a deliberate and obsessive imitation of the retired number one hero, All Might.
In his civilian life, Baldo is a power-hungry and deeply delusional individual. Despite his goal of becoming the next Symbol of Peace, his actions and worldview are the antithesis of heroism. He is utterly depraved, showing no regard for innocent lives or even his own subordinates, whom he casually murders for failure. His motivation stems from a profound misunderstanding of a key event in hero history. After witnessing All Might's final battle with All For One, he misheard or misinterpreted All Might's words, "Now, it's your turn," as a personal call to greatness directed at him, rather than to the hero's true successor, Izuku Midoriya. This delusion festered into an obsession to replicate All Might's strength and claim his legacy for himself. When his own father rebuked him, arguing that All Might's true value was his strength, not just power, Baldo murdered him in cold blood, solidifying his path to villainy.
Within the story's narrative, Dark Might serves as the central obstacle. He kidnaps a young woman named Anna Scervino, who possesses a Quirk that can enhance the abilities of others. Using Anna's power, he amplifies his own Quirk, Alchemy, to catastrophic levels. He uses this enhanced power to transmute a large section of a city into a massive flying fortress, trapping civilians and the students of U.A. High inside. His ultimate goal is to assert himself as the new Symbol of Peace by destroying U.A., All Might's alma mater, as a final act of spite and a declaration of his perceived superiority.
Dark Might's key relationships are defined by manipulation and abuse. He sees Anna Scervino solely as a tool to amplify his power and holds her captive for this purpose. He has no loyalty to his own crime family, viewing them as disposable assets. His entire identity is built as a dark reflection of All Might, whom he idolizes for his power rather than his ideals. This creates a direct ideological conflict with Deku and the hero students, who represent All Might's true legacy of self-sacrifice and protection.
Throughout the film, Dark Might's character arc is one of escalating desperation and monstrous transformation. When his initial plans are foiled, he pushes Anna's Quirk beyond its limits, causing his own power to spiral out of control. He loses his human form and coherent mind, becoming a gigantic, screaming beast driven only by a lust for power. This final, mutated state represents the ultimate corruption of All Might's heroic image, stripping away any remaining pretense of justice to reveal the hollow, power-seeking obsession underneath.
Dark Might's notable abilities are centered on his Quirk, Alchemy. This power allows him to transmute the matter of anything he touches. He can reshape objects into fully functional weapons, buildings, or tools, and even change the physical state of matter. He primarily uses gold coins as a catalyst for his transmutations. A key application of Alchemy is its ability to modify his own body, which is how he is able to mimic All Might's towering, muscular physique. When his Quirk is supercharged by Anna Scervino's Overmodification ability, Alchemy's power expands exponentially. He no longer needs to touch objects to transmute them, gaining a massive area of effect that allows him to create his floating fortress and other large-scale structures. In this boosted state, he can also unleash powerful variations of All Might's signature moves, such as the Bologna Smash and Torino Smash, delivering rapid, destructive punches that rival the power of the original hero. The boosted state also allows him to fire condensed beams of energy. Ultimately, his reliance on this external power source becomes his downfall, as the uncontrolled amplification transforms him into a mindless monster.
