Description
Paulo Gorrini is a villain who appears in the anime film My Hero Academia: You're Next as a member of the Gorrini Family, a large criminal organization led by the antagonist Dark Might. He is one of the family's most devoted operatives and works alongside other members such as Deborah, Bruno, Kamil, Simon, and Hugo to carry out the organization's objectives.
His background ties him directly to the Gorrini Family, and he serves Dark Might with complete loyalty. Paulo's physical appearance is unusual and unsettling: his skin is purple, his small green eyes are slightly sunken, he has no visible mouth, and his pointed face resembles a plague-doctor mask, which is a consequence of his Quirk. He typically wears a black hat as part of his outfit, and his eerie look reflects the nature of his power, which has permanently altered his body.
In terms of personality, Paulo is ruthless and single-minded. He is fiercely devoted to Dark Might and shows no hesitation in eliminating anyone who stands in the family's way. However, he is also overconfident in his Quirk and prone to underestimating opponents, which leads to his downfall. His loyalty does not protect him, as his leader values results above all else.
His main motivation is to prove himself useful to Dark Might and to complete the tasks assigned to him. In the story, Paulo is tasked with securing Anna Scervino, a key target connected to Dark Might's plans. During the mission, he is outwitted by Ginji, an escaped convict, who takes Anna from him. Seeking to redeem himself, Paulo later succeeds in killing Giulio Gandini, a major obstacle to the family's plans. However, Izuku Midoriya notices the weakness in Paulo's Quirk and devises a strategy that causes Paulo to fail a second time. After these two consecutive failures, Dark Might has Paulo executed, demonstrating how disposable even loyal members are to the organization.
Paulo's Quirk is called An Ideology. It creates a field of influence centered on himself that extends a few meters around his body. Within that inner zone, Quirks can be used normally, while outside of it, Quirks become unusable. This makes him a dangerous opponent, since he can shut down the abilities of most enemies while preserving his own. The flaw lies in the same mechanics: anyone who remains within the inner field can still use their Quirk, which is exactly how Izuku turns the tables on him.
Development-wise, Paulo does not undergo a change of heart. His arc is defined by pride and downfall: he becomes more brutal after his first failure, but his reliance on his Quirk makes him predictable, and he is ultimately discarded by the very organization he serves. His death also reveals the strict and merciless hierarchy of the Gorrini Family and raises the stakes for the heroes opposing Dark Might.
