Description
Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck is a former Arrancar and a one-time member of the Espada, the elite group of Hollow-Shinigami hybrids who served under Sosuke Aizen. She originally held the rank of Tercera Espada, meaning third seat, signifying her immense power among Aizen's forces. In the events of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 3 - The Conflict, she returns as a key ally to Ichigo Kurosaki and the Soul Society, fighting against the Wandenreich.

Nelliel's background is marked by tragedy and betrayal. In her past, she was a powerful and respected warrior who commanded her own group of followers known as the Tres Cifras. Unlike many of her fellow Espada, she possessed a strong sense of honor and compassion, which placed her at odds with the brutal nature of Hueco Mundo. Her rival, Nnoitra Gilga, harbored a deep resentment toward her because of her strength and her gender. Unable to accept that a woman could surpass him, Nnoitra, with the help of the scientist Szayelaporro Granz, ambushed her, broke her Hollow mask, and drained her spiritual power. This attack caused her to physically regress into a childlike form and lose all memories of her former life. She was then taken in by her loyal Fraccion, Pesche Guatiche and Dondochakka Birstanne, who protected her while she lived in ignorance of her true identity.

In terms of personality, Nelliel presents two distinct sides. In her childlike form, she is cheerful, energetic, and playful, displaying a childlike innocence and curiosity. She is also highly affectionate and forms attachments quickly, particularly to Ichigo, whom she calls "Ichigo" and follows closely. However, in her adult form, she is a calm, analytical, and dignified warrior. She is deeply loyal, respectful toward those she deems worthy, and compassionate, especially toward her friends and allies. She believes that a warrior should have a meaningful reason to fight, a philosophy that sets her apart from the more bloodthirsty Arrancars. Despite her formidable power, she prefers to avoid unnecessary conflict and is reluctant to kill, as shown by her refusal to finish off Nnoitra even after defeating him repeatedly.

Her motivations are primarily driven by a desire to protect those she cares about. After regaining her memories and adult powers during the earlier Arrancar arc, she becomes invested in safeguarding her former home of Hueco Mundo and its ruler, Tier Harribel, from the Quincy invasion. In the Thousand-Year Blood War, she travels to the Human World to seek Ichigo's help to rescue Harribel. Later, in Part 3 - The Conflict, she returns as a combatant, fighting alongside Ichigo, Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez, and Kisuke Urahara against the Sternritter. Her primary motivation is to defend her friends and take a stand against the tyranny of Yhwach's forces.

Key relationships define Nelliel's character arc. Her bond with Ichigo Kurosaki is central; they share a mutual respect and trust, and she is genuinely grateful for his kindness. Her relationship with Nnoitra is defined by his jealousy and betrayal, which serves as the primary source of her past trauma. She maintains a deep loyalty to her former Fraccion, Pesche and Dondochakka, who never abandoned her even in her weakest state. In the later arcs, she also works alongside Grimmjow, another former Espada, forming an uneasy but effective alliance against the Quincy. Her bond with Kisuke Urahara is notable because he creates a special bracelet that allows her to freely switch between her child and adult forms at will, giving her full control over her power.

In terms of development, Nelliel undergoes a significant transformation. She begins as a fallen, powerless child with no memory, evolves into a reluctant but capable ally when her adult form emerges, and finally achieves full command over her abilities. By the time of the Thousand-Year Blood War, she has moved beyond her role as an antagonist and fully embraces her place as a protector, using her strength for the benefit of others.

Nelliel's notable abilities are those of a high-level Arrancar. She possesses the standard Arrancar techniques, including Cero, which she fires from her mouth, and the advanced Cero Doble, where she can absorb an opponent's Cero and combine it with her own to launch a more powerful counterattack. Her Sonido, a high-speed movement technique, is exceptionally fast, allowing her to dodge attacks with ease. She also has a strong Hierro, the Arrancar defensive skin hardening, which enables her to deflect blades and Ceros with her body. Her Zanpakuto is named Gamuza. Its release command is "Sing, Gamuza." Upon releasing her Resurreccion, she transforms into a centaur-like being with a double-headed lance. In this form, she gains immense physical power and speed. Her ultimate technique in this state is Lanzador Verde, a devastating throwing attack where she hurls her lance like a spinning drill, capable of breaking through enemy defenses and inflicting mortal damage. A unique trait of Nelliel's is that her saliva has healing properties, which she uses in her child form to treat injuries. In the Thousand-Year Blood War, thanks to Urahara's device, she can shift between her small and adult forms at will, allowing her to access her full combat capacity precisely when needed.
