Description
Margulus is a supporting character in the anime and the initial primary antagonist who sets the events of the story in motion. He is the leader of the first-class adventurer party known as Sword of Lightning, also referred to as Blades of Lightning. In this role, he is responsible for expelling the healer Raust from the party, having judged him as a weak and incompetent member with no real combat value. Shortly afterward, Margulus replaces Raust with a different healer named Lyra.

Margulus is characterized by a pronounced arrogance and a strong sense of self-importance. He considers himself a genius destined for greatness and frequently seeks praise for his perceived brilliance. He has a condescending attitude toward others, especially those he views as inferior, and he habitually shifts the blame for failures onto his subordinates or external factors rather than accepting any responsibility himself. This pattern of behavior stems from a short-sighted view of competence and a refusal to acknowledge his own tactical shortcomings. He treats the members of his party as tools to further his own glory, belittling them when things go wrong and taking full credit for any successes.

His primary motivation is to maintain his status as a first-class adventurer and to lead a successful, celebrated party. However, his arrogance and poor leadership rapidly cause the party to decline after Raust's departure. He repeatedly fails key quests, such as attempts to slay a poisonous hydra, despite recruiting the elite healer Lyra. His inability to succeed leads him to consider even more unethical actions, including plans to banish another party member named Armia and entertain ideas of human trafficking. These plans are discovered by Sieg, another member of the party, which results in Margulus being stripped of his rights as a first-class adventurer.

In terms of development, Margulus does not undergo any positive change. His hubris remains intact, and he continues to blame others for his growing failures. His role in the story is largely that of a foil to the protagonist Raust: he represents the unfair judgment and exploitation that Raust endured, and his continued decline contrasts with Raust's rise to strength and recognition.

Notable abilities include skill with a sword, as he is referred to as a swordsman, though some descriptions also label him a mage with powerful magic. Regardless, his tactical decisions are consistently portrayed as inept, and his overconfidence often leads him into situations he cannot handle. He does not display any unique or extraordinary abilities beyond the typical combat skills of a party leader.
