Shunichi Toki
Description
Shunichi Toki is a Japanese voice actor and singer from Tokyo, born on May 7, 1989. He is affiliated with the talent agency WITH LINE and his solo singing activities are managed by the record label Pony Canyon. He made his debut as a voice actor in 2013.
Growing up in a musically inclined family, Toki was exposed to a wide range of music from an early age by his father, which fostered his love for singing. Although he enjoyed anime, manga, and video games as a child and admired voice actors, he did not actively pursue it until after graduating from university. While in university, he helped with an acting troupe and discovered he enjoyed acting, though he was not fond of performing in front of a live audience. This realization led him to pursue a career in voice acting, as it would allow him to act without being on stage. To achieve this goal, he trained at a vocal school and at Amusement Media Gakuen for about two years before making his official debut.
In the early stages of his career, Toki voiced minor and background characters in various anime. One of his first significant roles came with the Tsukipro franchise, where he voiced Koki Eto, the leader of the unit Growth. This role allowed him to showcase his singing ability, which has become one of his strengths as a performer. His voice acting filmography has since grown to include a wide variety of characters. He is known for roles such as Kazutora Hanemiya in Tokyo Revengers, Akane Aoi in Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun, Rui Kamishiro in the Project Sekai game and its film adaptation, Glenn Leitbeit in Monster Girl Doctor, and Jhin Syulargun in Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World. He has also voiced characters in long-running franchises, including Allocer Schneider in Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun and Kei Tsuzuki in The Idolmaster SideM.
Beyond anime, Toki has lent his voice to numerous video games, including the popular role of Freminet in Genshin Impact. He is also involved in multimedia projects, such as voicing Hokusai Masaki in Paradox Live, Kaoru Kisaragi in Hana-Doll, and Rutile in Mahoutsukai no Yakusoku - Promise of Wizard. His work spans a diverse range of genres, from fantasy series like Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling (as Ilusia) and The Legendary Hero is Dead! (as Sion Bladan and Touka Scott) to more comedic titles like The Vampire Dies in No Time (as Fukuma). Toki's ability to adapt his performance is also evident in his work, with reports that for the character Rui Kamishiro in Project Sekai, the staff allowed him to ad-lib lines, with some of his improvisations being incorporated directly into the game.
In addition to his voice acting, Toki has pursued a career as a solo singer. He made his solo debut on May 15, 2019, with the single Yakusoku no Overture, which also served as the ending theme song for the anime Midnight Occult Civil Servants, in which he voiced the character Huehuecóyotl. His music is often inspired by his diverse influences, such as his mini-album True Gazer, which was inspired by music from the 1960s and 1970s. He also hosts his own radio programs, including Café Tokinowa and Time With You.
