Description
Yuki Rurikawa, a 15-year-old member of the Mankai Company's Summer Troupe, serves as both an actor and the primary costume designer. His distinctly feminine appearance stems from a preference for cute, fashionable clothing like skirts, frilled blouses, and accessories such as a bear-shaped bag. Despite this presentation, he identifies as male and takes pride in his personal style without concern for societal expectations, a choice that often leads to him being mistaken for a girl, contrasting sharply with his personality.

Characterized by bluntness, sarcasm, and a lack of deference towards seniors, Yuki freely voices his opinions, often using harsh or critical language—a defensive demeanor developed in response to past bullying about his interests. He habitually assigns descriptive, frequently unflattering nicknames based on immediate impressions, such as calling Tenma Sumeragi "Hack" or "Mr. More Directionally Challenged Than a Rock," Kazunari Miyoshi "Friendly McExtrovert," Misumi Ikaruga "Trianglian," and Izumi Tachibana "Invader From Planet Curry."

Raised in a household allowing significant freedom in self-expression, his mother later sought to curb his occasionally brazen behavior towards the Mankai Company director. Yuki joined initially to observe his costumes for the Spring Troupe's "Romeo and Julius" in performance. Involvement and an audition revealed a genuine interest in acting, leading to his official recruitment into the Summer Troupe.

As the troupe's self-taught costume specialist, Yuki demonstrates considerable talent in design and sewing, handling creation and maintenance for all company productions, sometimes assisting with hair and makeup. He approaches his work with dedication and pride, conducting research (like studying kabuki costuming for a ninja play), sketching designs, selecting fabrics, and making adjustments based on rehearsal observations. He enjoys experimenting with styles, including traditional Japanese clothing like kimonos, and often discusses fashion, offering advice or inviting shopping trips.

Relationships within the company are complex. He shares Room 201 with Summer Troupe leader Tenma Sumeragi; their interactions are frequently antagonistic, marked by arguments stemming from Yuki's insults and Tenma's ego, though not deeply hostile. They occasionally cooperate, like during role-study for "Water Me!" where Yuki played Scheherazade. He maintains a close friendship with fellow St. Flora student Muku Sakisaka, who admires Yuki's strength and mediates between him and Tenma. Yuki respects Muku's kindness, accepting him despite perceived flaws. He finds Misumi Ikaruga perplexing, respects Kazunari Miyoshi's design sense while finding his extroverted nature irritating, and considers Kumon Hyodo overly loud. Evidence suggests a forgotten connection: Yuki was likely Taichi Nanao's childhood first crush, described as a girl "who talked like one of the guys" skilled at needlework; Yuki has no recollection of this meeting.

In the Summer Troupe, Yuki is often cast in female or cross-dressing roles like Scheherazade, Shiro, Francoise, and Hikaru Washimiya due to his appearance. He approaches these roles seriously, seeking methods to deepen understanding, such as practicing traditional dance with Azuma Yukishiro for a princess role. Over time, subtle character development reveals a softer side beneath his sharp exterior. He participates in group activities like fanservice research sessions, practicing a "tsundere" style interaction and acknowledging its potential appeal. He exhibits concern for fellow members in his own way, like advising Taichi to be careful sewing to avoid injury.

Yuki collects cute items, enjoys discovering cute shops, watches kabuki, and used to take piano lessons. He values the freedom to like what he likes, sometimes expressing frustration that others don't understand his feelings about his interests.
