Description
Hulemy is a character from the anime Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon. She is a young woman who appears as an adult, with long brown hair that reaches past her hips and brown eyes. Her stature is notably tall, and her overall presence is assertive, often described as having a delinquent vibe. She typically wears a black overcoat, and in some adaptations, her teeth are depicted as sharp.

Her personality is exceptionally confident and outspoken, marked by a brash, delinquent-style manner of speaking. She uses the masculine pronoun ore to refer to herself, which highlights her bold and unconventional nature. Hulemy possesses remarkable courage and a fearless attitude, often confronting dangerous threats directly even though she lacks physical combat abilities. Her intellect and intense curiosity drive her actions, giving her a mad scientist tendency as she enthusiastically engages in risky experiments, sometimes causing trouble for those around her. Despite her tough exterior, she is deeply loyal and caring, particularly toward her childhood friend, Lammis.

The backstory Hulemy shares with Lammis is a tragic one. Her hometown was destroyed by monsters, an event in which she lost her parents, leaving her and Lammis as the only survivors. From a young age, Hulemy was fascinated with magical tool engineering, and her childhood experiments often caused chaos, foreshadowing her future as a brilliant but eccentric magical tool technician.

As a skilled magical tool engineer, Hulemy plays a crucial role in the story as an investigator and technical expert. While she cannot fight physically, her true strength lies in her outstanding analytical abilities and her scientific approach to problems. She can rapidly assess complex magical technology and decipher unfamiliar magical devices. Her most notable achievement is being the first person to realize that the protagonist, Boxxo, a sentient vending machine, actually contains a human soul.

Hulemy is first introduced after being kidnapped by a bandit group, who have locked her in their hideout to force her to research Boxxo and extract money from him. During her captivity, she is tasked with examining Boxxo and steadily uncovers his features. Her sharp mind and fearless attitude allow her to intimidate her captors and remain composed in the dangerous situation. Lammis and the group eventually storm the hideout and rescue her. During the chaos of the rescue operation, an explosion threatens to bury everyone under rubble, but Boxxo uses a protective barrier to keep the group safe. When oxygen runs low, Boxxo transforms into an oxygen vending machine to keep Hulemy alive until help arrives.

After her rescue, Hulemy joins the labyrinth exploration team as an investigator, using her skills to aid their journey. At the request of a character named Suori, she participates in a magical tool exhibition. When an illegal humanoid magical tool containing a trapped human soul goes berserk, Hulemy quickly analyzes its mechanism and successfully releases the trapped soul, halting the rampage. Later, during a confrontation with the King of Souls, she is captured and put into cardiac arrest by an electric shock. She is revived thanks to the combined efforts of her companions, with Boxxo using an automated external defibrillator function and Lammis performing chest compressions. In the anime adaptation, after being revived from near death, Hulemy thanks Boxxo with a kiss, an original scene not found in the source novel.

Her relationships are central to her character. Her bond with Lammis is profoundly deep, rooted in their shared history as the only survivors of their destroyed hometown. She acts like a big sister to Lammis, and they share a bond of mutual trust and care. Her relationship with Boxxo is unique and evolves from initial examination to a strong partnership. She is good friends with him, knows he has a human soul, and is shown to have romantic feelings for him. She also has a close ally in Shui and supports Suori by providing critical technical assistance. She joins the Menagerie of Fools in their missions and is on good terms with other members of the group like Kikoyu, Botan, and Kuroyata.
