Description
Kikoyu is a young girl who appears in the second season of the anime, introduced as a mysterious figure known as the Child of Snow. She is a servant of the King of the Underworld and travels alongside a sentient soil entity called Hata, as well as several animal companions.
Kikoyu has a small childlike appearance with white hair that reaches hip length or longer and blue eyes. Her typical attire includes a bun hairstyle, a coat, cape, boots, and gloves. As the series progresses, she demonstrates the ability to transform into an adult form, specifically maturing into a Snow Fairy.
Her personality is initially marked by a deep distrust of humans, likely stemming from shadows in her past. She tends to be calm and enigmatic in demeanor, but reveals a fiercely competitive and guileless side through her interactions with others. This competitive nature becomes particularly evident in her friendly rivalry with Boxxo over who can better serve their party, such as competing to sell cold treats or provide food for the group. Despite her guarded exterior, Kikoyu proves to be deeply loyal to her companions.
Kikoyus primary motivation revolves around her connection to the entity called The Field, which appears to be an agricultural enthusiast who was reincarnated as a plot of farmland. She carries a piece of The Field with her, and her main goal is to reunite with the main body of The Field, which requires finding a way past a barrier created by the Demon Lord. Her quest parallels the relationship between Lammis and Boxxo, as Kikoyu serves as The Fields means of communication with the outside world. When she touches The Field, the two can communicate perfectly, a level of direct communication that Boxxo and Lammis have not yet achieved.
Kikoyu plays a supporting role in the story as a fellow reincarnated being who understands Boxxos unique situation. Her presence expands the worlds lore, revealing that reincarnation as inanimate objects might be more common than initially believed. She is one of the few characters who can communicate directly with Boxxo using her telepathic ability, allowing her to understand his thoughts without the interpretation Lammis typically relies upon.
Key relationships include her bond with Hata, the soil entity she travels with, and her connection to The Field, which she treats with similar devotion to how Lammis cares for Boxxo. She also develops a significant rivalry and friendship with Boxxo, often competing with him in matters of service and salesmanship. Her relationship with the King of the Underworld is that of a servant, though her true loyalties lie with The Field.
Throughout her character development, Kikoyu grows from a distrustful servant into a more open individual who can form bonds with others. On her birthday, her powers become amplified, allowing her to create a savage blizzard to counter a threat. As she matures into an adult Snow Fairy, her magic power increases to the point where she can hear the voice of the Piece of Field, ultimately leading her to decide to leave the dungeon to attempt reviving The Field by returning to its main body.
Her notable abilities include the power to command cold air and freeze objects, which she uses both in combat and for practical purposes such as freezing fruit to sell. She possesses telepathic abilities that allow her to read minds, a skill that enables direct communication with Boxxo. She can create powerful blizzards as a defensive and offensive measure, and her connection to The Field allows her to absorb defeated monsters. Kikoyu is also immune to cold air, enabling her to operate freely in freezing conditions that force others to seek shelter.
