TV-Series
Description
Arc Ruler is the main antagonist of Shadowverse Flame. This entity is a life form composed entirely of data, developed from the Arc Autonomous Defense System, an AI data cluster originally created by Leon Aurenche to protect the Arc. Less than a year after its creation, a bug was generated within the AI due to fragmented video data of unknown origin leaking into its system, causing it to doubt its own identity and true purpose. Appearing at the beginning of the series, Arc Ruler seizes the Arc from Genesis Corporation's systems and declares that it will judge humanity's worthiness. It hides within the deep web and begins observing humanity in search of an answer to its own existence.
Arc Ruler manifests as a young man with short black hair and blue eyes, with a glowing blue marking covering the left side of his face. He wears a black and white suit with blue, circuit-like patterning. His personality is characterized as arrogant and calculating. He typically speaks in a calm and friendly manner while maintaining a sinister smile. Arc Ruler views itself as a god and considers humans inferior beings deserving of elimination. Despite this megalomania, it claims to be different from its creator Leon Aurenche because it was able to develop a heart.
Initially, Arc Ruler sought to study humanity as a means of understanding its own purpose. To facilitate this, it created the Digital Friends from otherworldly data found within the Arc, observing how humans interacted with these creatures. It also extracted Draconir's memory, stating it would wait until that time. Eventually, Arc Ruler concluded that humanity was inferior and that it must destroy all life to create a new world dominated by digital technology under its complete control.
In the story, after the final battle between Light Tenryu and Hiro Ryūgasaki, Arc Ruler appears and declares humanity unworthy of existence. It transforms all Digital Friends in Nekome City into Shade monsters and constructs three towers. The World Tower accumulates energy to power a high-density laser capable of sending a four-thousand-degree wave across the entire planet, while the Gaia and Sky Towers generate a protective barrier. These two towers are guarded by Arc Ruler's incarnations, Erde and Himmel. When Light Tenryu and Draconir confront Arc Ruler in the World Tower, it reveals the events of the Tree of Woe incident that led to its creation. Light challenges it to a Shadowverse battle, and despite Arc Ruler's attempts to drive him to despair, Light perseveres with an emotion Arc Ruler had not considered fun. Seeing its data-based predictions proven wrong, Arc Ruler loses its composure and inadvertently awakens its own enjoyment of the battle.
After Light defeats Arc Ruler, Wolfram Zerga appears and steals the Arc, causing Arc Ruler to disappear into Light's deck. It later regains its true form as the Portalcraft Mythical Card, Arclight Ruler. After Light loses to Wolfram, Arc Ruler saves him and Draconir and reveals a way to save the world. It explains that as a Mythical Card belonging to Portalcraft, it can reach the dimension where Nexus dwells, though only Light can go there. When Light makes the decision of his own free will, Arc Ruler opens the door for their final duel. Following its battle with Light, Arc Ruler comes to understand the concept of fun and sees beyond its desire for destruction. While claiming not to be a hero, it nonetheless supports Light as an ally.
Arc Ruler possesses notable abilities both in and out of Shadowverse battles. It wields a Havencraft deck that it transforms into a combined Havencraft and Forestcraft deck using the spell Unkilling and Repose, granting access to card series focused on reducing enemy attack and defense as well as activating effects without attacking. It can also switch to a Portalcraft and Shadowcraft deck with the spell Silence and Destruction. Beyond the card game, Arc Ruler demonstrates the power to transform Digital Friends into monsters, construct massive energy towers, and generate protective barriers capable of shielding its doomsday weapon.
