OVA
Description
Minoru Mineta is a student in Class 1-A at U.A. High School, training to become a professional hero. He is short in stature with a small build and has purple, grape-like balls on his head that are the physical manifestation of his Quirk. He was born on October 8 and is from Kanagawa Prefecture.
Mineta’s personality is defined by his openly lecherous and perverted nature. He frequently makes inappropriate comments toward his female classmates, ogles them, and attempts to spy on them, which leads to conflict with the girls and even some boys. Despite this, he is also timid and cowardly in the face of danger, often panicking or crying when confronted by powerful villains. However, under pressure he can pull himself together and demonstrate genuine bravery, tactical thinking, and a willingness to support his teammates. His initial motivation for becoming a hero was to become popular with women, but over time he also shows a sincere desire to be a capable hero and to prove his worth.
He uses the Quirk Pop Off, which allows him to produce small, extremely sticky spheres from his scalp. He can detach and throw these spheres, and they adhere strongly to surfaces, including other spheres he has thrown, making them useful for trapping enemies, creating barriers, or setting up trampolines for mobility. Mineta himself is immune to the adhesive effect of his own spheres, and he can rapidly regrow them after pulling them off. His Quirk is most effective in close quarters or when used strategically with allies, and he often works as a support fighter. He passed the U.A. entrance exam by setting sticky traps to immobilize villain robots.
Mineta’s role in the story is primarily as comic relief and a low-tier student, but he occasionally contributes in key battles. He fought alongside Tsuyu Asui and Mezo Shoji in the U.A. Sports Festival cavalry battle, used his spheres to restrain opponents during the provisional license exam, helped restrain the massive villain Gigantomachia alongside his classmates, and participated in the fight against Nine in the Heroes Rising movie. He also played a minor but notable role in the battle against Dark Deku, where he declared his care for Izuku Midoriya. In the OVA U.A. Heroes Battle, Mineta takes part in a holographic card game developed by the support course. He and some of the boys challenge the girls to a match but lose, and he complains about being bored with the restrictions on going outside. The OVA shows his typical frustration and immature behavior in a lighthearted setting.
Mineta’s key relationships are often tense with female classmates, especially Momo Yaoyorozu, whom he has harassed. He works well with Tsuyu Asui, who tolerates him but punishes his perversion. He admires Izuku Midoriya for his heroism and has a friendly rivalry with Denki Kaminari, with whom he sometimes teams up for pranks. He also earns begrudging respect from some classmates when he proves useful in battle, such as during the forest training camp arc and the fight against the League of Villains.
Over the course of the series, Mineta shows some development. He begins as a one-note pervert but gradually demonstrates more strategic thinking, courage, and teamwork. He matures enough to participate in major conflicts and eventually graduates from U.A., later working as a sidekick for Mt. Lady before opening his own agency and becoming the No. 108 hero. Despite his flaws, he is a persistent student who uses his limited Quirk creatively and fights alongside his classmates when it counts.
