Description
Hiya is a powerful djinn who commands the origin of light and darkness. As an ancient being who has mastered all forms of dark and light magic, she possesses godlike prowess and is considered one of the strongest djinns in existence. Long before the events of the story, people would seek her out to have their wishes granted, but these wishes always came at a tremendous cost, such as the sacrifice of half a kingdom's population. Because of the devastation she caused, Hiya was eventually sealed away inside a sword and hidden in a royal treasure room, where she remained for centuries.
Hiya initially exhibits a personality that is alien and detached, with a total disregard for conventional concepts of good or evil. She thinks nothing of sacrificing countless lives when granting wishes, viewing such actions without moral concern. After being freed, she displays a haughty and arrogant demeanor, genuinely shocked that a human could possess abilities comparable to her own. When Flio not only uses a time-reversal spell but also lands a physical blow on her, her bewilderment turns to anger and indignation that a mere human could injure her. However, once she realizes she is completely outmatched, her arrogance quickly gives way to fear, and she begs for her life.
After her defeat at the hands of Flio, Hiya undergoes a significant transformation. At the suggestion of Fenrys, she becomes Flio's servant as a way to keep her under supervision while also benefiting from her immense power. From this point forward, she displays complete loyalty to Flio, referring to him as the supreme one, and addresses Fenrys as the lady. Her obedience stems partly from fear, but also from genuine intrigue, as she finds Flio's decision to spare and forgive her fascinating. She becomes calm and collected in her new role, taking on general housework duties for the household.
In the story, Hiya serves first as a major antagonist and then as a powerful ally and servant to Flio. She is released from her seal by the disgraced blonde hero, who wishes for Flio to be killed. Hiya attacks Flio, but Fenrys intervenes and is gravely wounded, which sends Flio into a rage. He beats Hiya savagely until she is near death, only stopping when Fenrys recovers and convinces him to show mercy. After becoming Flio's servant, she proves invaluable, such as when she removes the wicked soul of the witch Damalynas from another character's body and seals it away. Later, when Damalynas revives and begins rampaging, Hiya compresses the witch into a small sphere and swallows it to seal her permanently.
Key relationships shape Hiya's development significantly. Her relationship with Flio is central, as his overwhelming power and unexpected mercy humble her and earn her genuine loyalty. She is fascinated by him and watches over him with great interest. Her relationship with Damalynas is unusual and complex; after imprisoning the witch in her mindscape, Hiya uses her as a training partner to explore her curiosity about sexuality. As a genderless spirit who can change form at will, Hiya has no innate understanding of sex or shame, and her exploration with the captive Damalynas stems more from innocent curiosity and a desire to study physical creatures than from any lustful or sadistic intent. This outsider mentality makes her behavior simultaneously unsettling and strangely innocent.
Hiya possesses a range of notable abilities. As a djinn, she can grant wishes, though each wish requires a great sacrifice, typically lives, with the scale of sacrifice matching the scale of the wish. She can reverse time, though she warns that time magic is dangerous and could alert the gods or create time discrepancies. Hiya can shapeshift freely, changing her form and even her sex because she is a noncorporeal being. She is immortal and has lived for centuries, though sufficiently powerful adversaries like Flio can harm her and potentially kill her. Beyond these specific powers, Hiya possesses godlike magical abilities that could easily wipe out entire populations, which is precisely why Flio and Fenrys decide to keep her as a servant rather than risk someone else releasing her in the future. She typically floats in the air rather than walking, and she often keeps her eyes closed.
