TV-Series
Description
Elrand is an elf who serves as the Guild Master of the adventurer's guild in the dungeon city of Doran. His character is defined by an overwhelming and almost obsessive enthusiasm for dragons, which makes him a unique and memorable figure in the story.
Personality wise, Elrand is highly eccentric and intense, often speaking with rapid-fire passion when discussing his interests. He has a tendency to become childishly excited, especially when in the presence of dragon parts or rare creatures. This enthusiasm is so powerful that it borders on the fanatical; he is known to launch into lengthy reminiscences about historical dragon-related events, such as the formation of a Dragon Slaying Brigade 238 years prior. When faced with a defeated Earth Dragon, his excitement becomes palpable, and he marvels at its magnificent, rock-like scales and gigantic body. Despite his rank and age, he can also display petulant behavior, such as pouting like a child when his Guild Master, Ugor, threatens to sell his most prized gem as a punishment for shirking his duties.
Elrand's primary motivation stems from his deep-seated fixation on dragons. He is driven by the desire to acquire, process, and utilize dragon materials, with a particular goal of crafting a sword from the remnants of a powerful Earth Dragon. This passion is his greatest strength as a craftsman but is also presented as his Achilles' heel, as his composure can crumble in the face of draconic items.
In the story's narrative, Elrand fulfills the crucial role of an expert craftsman and a key contact within the adventuring world. The protagonist, Mukohda, is directed to him specifically for his unparalleled skill in processing high-grade monsters, a task beyond the ability of most others. When Mukohda and his familiars Fel, Sui, and Dora-chan arrive in Doran with the carcass of a massive Earth Dragon, it is Elrand who is tasked with its dismantling. His role extends to business affairs as well; he accompanies Mukohda to the Merchants' Guild to ensure he gets a fair deal when selling rare and valuable gemstones.
Elrand's key relationships are primarily professional and marked by a dynamic of mutual understanding and exasperation. He frequently interacts with the guild's Vice-Guild Master, Ugor, who acts as a foil to Elrand's impulsiveness. Ugor is familiar with Elrand's eccentricities and is not above using firm, even parental, threats to keep him focused on his duties. Elrand also develops a significant connection with Mukohda and his familiars. Upon first meeting them, he is instantly captivated by the pixie dragon Dora-chan, nerding out over the rare creature to the latter's annoyance. His relationship with the slime Sui proves to be pivotal; after a standard mithril dagger shatters against the Earth Dragon's hide, it is Sui, blessed with a god's skill, who creates a superior knife, enabling Elrand to finally perform the carving.
Elrand's character sees a notable development in his expertise when he is finally able to process the Earth Dragon. His initial attempt to carve the beast results in failure, as the guild's historical mithril dagger snaps instantly against the dragon's tough skin, sending him into despair. However, with the creation of Sui's enhanced mithril knife, Elrand's true skill is unleashed. He successfully dismantles the entire dragon, a task he had been eagerly anticipating, and his resulting joy is described as contagious.
As an elf, Elrand possesses a long lifespan, as evidenced by his vivid recollection of events from nearly two and a half centuries ago. His notable abilities are centered on his professional expertise. He is recognized as an excellent Guild Master, but his primary claim to fame is his mastery over dismantling and crafting. He holds the specific and highly valued ability to process powerful monsters like the Earth Dragon into usable goods, a service that is essential for high-ranking adventurers.
