TV-Series
Description
Aoi Uemachi is a resident of room seven at the boarding house known as Astro Note, living there after being invited by the previous owner. Her background is marked by significant hardship, as she was abandoned by her parents and spent her childhood in orphanages before entering the workforce. She eventually found a job as a waitress at a hotel, a period of her life that would prove to be pivotal.
It was while working at this hotel that Aoi first encountered Takumi Miyasaki. They would often share lunch breaks together, and Takumi gave her the nickname Onigirichan because she always ate large rice balls. During this time, a connection formed between them, but neither ever learned the other's full name. When the hotel unexpectedly closed, Aoi lost her job and her home, becoming homeless until she was taken in by the previous owner of Astro Note. This string of losses left a deep mark, fostering a profound sense of loneliness and isolation.
In personality, Aoi is defined by her extreme shyness and reserve. She struggles to make friends and has a tendency to withdraw from social contact, which had led to her living a very solitary existence. For a long time after moving into Astro Note, she remained completely hidden from the other residents, to the point that her presence in room seven was forgotten by everyone. Her routine of secrecy involved furtive appearances, and she remained cut off from the community around her.
Aoi's role in the story begins to change when Takumi, who has since become a resident and the cook at Astro Note, notices that his breakfast is being stolen. The installation of a surveillance camera reveals Aoi as the culprit, bringing her back into the attention of the household. This event leads to a quiet reunion with Takumi, whom she is overjoyed to see again but too timid to properly introduce herself to. Although she changes her appearance to be more like the person she was in the past, Takumi does not recognize her as the woman he once shared lunches with, nor does he guess the depth of her feelings for him.
Her key relationships are centered on a few individuals. Her feelings for Takumi Miyasaki are a primary motivation, as she is deeply attracted to him and hopes to be recognized by him, though she struggles to express her emotions. Another important figure is Naosuke, another resident who acts as a kind of confidant and mentor, encouraging her through the wall of their rooms to be brave and to reach out to Takumi. Motivated by Naosuke's advice, Aoi gathers her courage and invites Takumi to an event themed around edible insects, hoping to share something special with him, even though the outcome is not what she expected. Her development centers on her gradual emergence from the shadows and her tentative efforts to connect with others, fighting against her lifelong pattern of isolation. She has no notable superhuman or extraordinary abilities; her strengths lie in her resilience and her capacity for quiet, heartfelt emotion.
