Description
Brian D. Kadokura is a character from the 2024 film, appearing as a Japanese-American man who maintains a public facade as a philanthropist. Beneath this respectable exterior, he operates as a notorious arms dealer known as the Merchant of Death, conducting business across Asia. His primary motivation in the story is the pursuit of a legendary treasure, reportedly hidden in Hakodate by the first head of the Onoe family, a powerful industrialist involved in the war effort during World War II. The rumor surrounding the treasure suggests it is a weapon so potent it could have altered the course of the war. To achieve his goal, Kadokura leads a gang and engages in a series of ruthless and escalating crimes, including attempted murder, kidnapping, the use of explosives, and obstruction of justice.

Within the narrative, Kadokura acts as a formidable antagonist. He initially hides a sword that serves as a clue to the treasure, though it is stolen by the phantom thief Kid. After placing a wiretap to intercept the investigations of Conan and Heiji, Kadokura and his men aggressively pursue the clues, chasing the protagonists through city streets and firing guns without regard for public safety. His methods become more extreme as the story progresses, culminating in the kidnapping of a man named Ryoe Fukushiro. To pressure the police into finding the treasure, he plants bombs throughout Hakodate and detonates a police car as a demonstration of his willingness to cause destruction.

Key relationships in Kadokura's story are defined by conflict. He has a violent confrontation with the phantom thief Kid, shooting Inspector Nakamori twice, an act that provokes an unusually aggressive response from Kid. He also works alongside a network of accomplices and has a direct adversarial relationship with Conan and Heiji, who work to solve the mystery of the treasure and stop him. Kadokura demonstrates notable abilities, particularly with firearms; while his subordinates often miss their targets, he is a skilled marksman, capable of precise shots, such as shooting out a tire or using a sniper rifle effectively. His role as a major antagonist follows a pattern seen in other films in the series, establishing him as a foreign-born mid-boss who specifically targets a treasure and comes into direct conflict with Kid. The development of his character arc reveals a man driven by greed for a powerful artifact, only to face the ironic truth that the treasure he risked everything for is not a super-weapon but an outdated code-breaking device with no value in the modern era.
