Description
Josette is a young apprentice maid serving the Auvergne family. She is eleven years old and belongs to the beast race, a characteristic she displays through her red, unruly hair, cat-like ears, and a tail she often conceals beneath her uniform. Her speech pattern is notably marked by a distinctive verbal tic where she often ends her sentences with a sound like "-desu".

In terms of personality, Josette is a diligent and hardworking individual who is deeply committed to her duties. Despite this strong work ethic, she is exceptionally clumsy and prone to making mistakes in her tasks around the manor. In the past, this often led to her being frequently scolded by Grace Auvergne, whom she once described as looking like a paradise but having the character of hell. However, the central dynamic of her life changes when the soul of the middle-aged bureaucrat Kenzaburo Tondabayashi is reincarnated into Grace. The sudden and inexplicable shift from harsh criticism to overwhelming patience and kindness leaves Josette deeply confused and suspicious. Her initial reaction is one of fear, leading her to believe that this new gentle behavior might be a deceptive kindness meant to pacify her before she is sold off by the family. This crisis is eventually calmed by Grace, who offers her sweets and words of encouragement, leading Josette to gradually accept and become accustomed to the new, amicable treatment.

Josette's background is marked by personal tragedy. She lost her parents to an epidemic when she was very young and was subsequently raised by her grandmother. Her grandmother is a formidable and energetic woman who runs an apothecary on the outskirts of a village. Known for her incredible resilience, she is described by neighbors as someone who cannot be killed even if one tried. When she sent Josette to work for the Auvergne family, she instructed her granddaughter not to return until she had become a full-fledged adult.

Josette’s role in the story is that of a loyal attendant to Grace. Beyond her duties, she becomes a close companion, often joining Grace on outings and sharing in the enjoyment of desserts. She also demonstrates her own growth when she acts as a mentor to Anna Doll, teaching the girl the basics of being a maid during her stay at the Auvergne mansion. Josette develops a deep affection for Grace, who in turn promises to take responsibility for raising Josette into a proper adult.

Regarding her abilities, as a beast girl, Josette possesses physical strength superior to that of a normal human, making her confident in handling heavy lifting tasks. She also has a sharp sense of hearing. While she initially believes she has no aptitude for magic, a character named Pascal suggests that she has latent potential and that her innate magic might manifest in the future. Sketches from the source material imply she may have inherited this magical talent from her grandmother. In addition to her domestic training, Josette is also actively learning to read, write, and perform arithmetic.
