Description
Aiko is a character introduced in the third season of the anime, which adapts the Present World arc of the story. She is a young girl, a sixth-grader who is described as being responsible for her age. Aiko lives with her older brother, Yuki, and their grandfather, Kazumitsu, in the Aoki family home. Her parents are away working overseas, leaving the three of them as the primary residents of the household.
In the narrative, Aiko functions as a supportive and integral member of the Aoki family, who become central figures in Fushi's life during the modern-era setting. She is depicted as a confident and capable younger sister to Yuki. When Fushi first arrives in the present and is taken in by the family, Aiko is present alongside Yuki and Kazumitsu as they formally introduce themselves to him, welcoming him into their home. She participates in daily family life, such as helping with chores and being asked to handle grocery shopping for a family meal.
Aiko plays an active role in assisting Fushi with the unique challenges he faces in the modern world. After Fushi explains that his friends from previous eras have been resurrected and scattered across the globe, it is Aiko who shows him a viral video of one of them, Bonchien, waking up in confusion. Recognizing the people in the videos as Fushi’s companions, Aiko helps him search for clues online, leading them to a message directing them to an organization called the Tasty Peach Foundation. She then helps facilitate contact with this foundation, which ultimately allows Fushi to locate and reunite with his missing friends. Her practical nature and willingness to use modern tools like the internet are crucial to advancing this part of the story. Through her actions, Aiko demonstrates a calm and helpful personality, acting as a reliable bridge between the immortal Fushi and the contemporary world he is still learning to navigate. Her key relationship is with her family, particularly her brother Yuki, and she becomes a trusted and useful ally to Fushi. While she possesses no supernatural abilities herself, her competence in everyday life and her resourcefulness are her notable strengths.
