Description
Konden, also known as the original E-Soul, is a legendary hero who was the first to hold the title of Hero X in the world of To Be Hero X. He is remembered as a streak of light that could slay enemies with lightning speed, and he was instrumental in stopping the catastrophic event known as The Dawn, where the first hero Zero lost control and turned trust into fear. Clad in gold, black, and blue armor with a prosthetic right arm and a glowing blue eye slit, Konden commands electrokinesis, granting him superhuman speed and powerful lightning-based attacks, including his signature move the Lightning Slash. Unlike many heroes who seek fame, he is composed, stoic, and speaks in a serious, nonchalant tone; he prioritizes his duties over popularity, which leaves him detached from the public's adoration. His early motivation is pure duty, but after he loses his Hero X title to a new competitor in a tournament, he becomes embittered and eventually stops using his Lightning Slash. This loss of status and purpose drives him to become the primary antagonist of the second story arc, opposing the current heroes and creating conflict that ripples through later events. In the series, Konden appears as a minor figure in the first arc, then takes center stage as a villain in the second, and reappears in later arcs as a remnant of the past. His most significant relationship is with Yang Cheng, a young performer who initially impersonates him and later assumes the mantle of the new E-Soul after Konden's fall or death. Konden's legacy shapes Yang Cheng's journey from imposter to true hero. He also has ties to the organization Mighty Glory and to the early hero Zero, whom he once defeated. Development-wise, Konden transforms from a revered symbol of heroism into a bitter antagonist, illustrating how the hero system's reliance on public trust can consume those who lose it. His abilities center on lightning-based speed and offense, and his costume and prosthetic mark him as a warrior who has seen many battles.
