Description
Ghostblade, whose real name is Wang Yi, is a hero ranked fourth in the world of To Be Hero X. He was originally a butcher working at his family’s shop before building a public persona as a silent assassin. He personally chose the name Ghostblade because he thought it was the coolest name ever, and his edgy, or chuunibyo, tendencies are evident in how he embraced the role. He is a cool-headed hero who completes his missions without uttering a single word, and he is beloved by many fans for his silent work ethic and the handsome face hidden behind his mask.

Beneath his calm exterior lies a deeply troubled individual. From childhood, Ghostblade had difficulty expressing and recognizing emotions. He grew up in a noisy household that caused him significant discomfort, and his family saw his behavior as a problem. This lifelong struggle points to an affective disorder, likely a form of depression, and he exhibits many traits associated with autism, including auditory sensitivity and social awkwardness. His inability to properly convey his feelings has been a central challenge in his life.

Ghostblade’s primary motivation shifts dramatically over the course of the story. Initially, he seeks to maintain his silent, cool image as a hero. However, his past catches up with him when he learns that he has a daughter, Wang NuoNuo, from a previous relationship with a woman named Zhang Lan. Zhang Lan left him and took their daughter because Ghostblade could not adapt to the noise of family life. Desperate to know his daughter, he begins to immerse himself in her world by trying her favorite foods, listening to her music, and following her, which others mistake for stalking. His deepest desire is to reconnect with his daughter and learn how to be a good father, even though he has no idea how to express his love in an appropriate way.

In the narrative, Ghostblade serves as the protagonist of the sixth story arc, a major character in the eighth arc, a supporting character in the seventh, and a minor figure in the ninth and final arcs. His arc, beginning in episode 15, reveals his full backstory and confirms long-standing fan theories about his family. He interacts with several other heroes, most notably Loli, who is a close friend of his daughter. His relationship with his estranged wife remains unresolved, and his attempts to reach out to NuoNuo are fraught with misunderstanding.

Ghostblade’s abilities are centered on silent and efficient combat. He wields a variety of bladed weapons at superhuman speed, allowing him to dispatch opponents quickly and quietly. His fighting style is described as that of a silent killer from whom even speech knows no escape. His powers rely on the public’s trust, which he maintains through his enigmatic and effective hero work. Despite his formidable skills, his greatest personal development comes not from battle but from learning to navigate his own emotions and connect with his daughter.
