Description
The character known as Emi Yusa is the human alias of Emilia Justina, a central figure who originally hails from the fantastical world of Ente Isla. Born as a half-angel, half-human hybrid, she is the daughter of the human farmer Nord Justina and the archangel Lailah. Her early life was ordinary, spent in a rural village with her father, until the invasion of the Demon King Satan's army plunged her world into chaos. After her village was destroyed and she was led to believe her father had perished, a grief-stricken Emilia was taken in by the Church of Ente Isla. Driven by a desire for revenge, she dedicated herself to becoming the Church's champion, training relentlessly to wield the sacred sword Better Half, which is forged from a heavenly metal called tianyin. As the Hero of Ente Isla, she successfully led a resistance against the demon forces, defeating several of the Demon King's most powerful generals and ultimately confronting Satan himself at his stronghold, forcing him to retreat through a dimensional gate to escape.

Pursuing her nemesis to modern-day Tokyo, Emilia found herself stripped of nearly all her holy magic due to Earth's low-magical environment. Stranded and alone after being betrayed by her ally, the priest Olba Meyer, she adopted the Japanese name Emi Yusa and adapted to her new circumstances. Despite being only seventeen years old, she falsified her age to twenty and secured a job as a contract call center agent to support herself, living in an apartment in the Eifukucho neighborhood.

In terms of personality, Emi is defined by a strong sense of justice, a fierce determination, and an underlying benevolence that compels her to protect the innocent. While she is deeply caring and loyal to her friends and allies, she is often quick-tempered and impulsive, especially when dealing with demons. Her hatred for the Demon King and his forces is palpable, frequently leading her to utter threatening, almost yakuza-like warnings, which stands in contrast to typical expectations of a noble hero. Her early motivation is almost entirely fueled by revenge for the supposed death of her father. However, upon discovering that her father is alive and being hidden on Earth, her singular drive for vengeance is shaken, forcing her to question her entire identity and purpose. This revelation is a key turning point, shifting her focus from killing the Demon King to a more complex goal of protecting both Ente Isla and Earth from emerging threats.

Emi's role in the narrative is initially that of an antagonist and relentless pursuer of Sadao Maou, the human alias of the Demon King Satan. However, as she observes his mundane life as a hardworking part-time employee at the fast-food restaurant MgRonald's, her black-and-white view of him begins to erode. Her unwavering hostility is further complicated when they are forced into an reluctant alliance against common enemies, such as the corrupt priest Olba and the fallen angel Lucifer. Her key relationships are central to her development. Her bond with her human coworkers, particularly Rika Suzuki, helps her integrate into Japanese society. She also develops a complex rivalry with Chiho Sasaki, a teenage girl who has feelings for Sadao Maou, with Emi often showing signs of jealousy, particularly regarding her own perceived physical inadequacies compared to Chiho. Most significantly, her relationship with Sadao Maou transforms from pure enmity to a grudging, complicated alliance that develops into a close, if bickering, partnership. This is cemented by the arrival of Alas Ramus, a child-like fragment of the holy tree Yesod who imprints on both Emi and Maou as her parents, creating an unconventional family dynamic. This event softens Emi's rigid demeanor and forges a new, unbreakable connection with her former arch-enemy.

Throughout the story, Emi undergoes significant development. She evolves from a revenge-driven warrior into a more nuanced individual who values justice over vengeance. She begins to distrust the very institutions, like the Church of Ente Isla, that she once fought for, witnessing their corruption and scheming firsthand. Her time in Japan and her observations of Maou's genuine kindness force her to confront the complexity of morality, ultimately advocating for the possibility of peaceful coexistence rather than total annihilation. As she matures, she starts to define her own path as a hero, independent of political or divine agendas.

Regarding her abilities, Emi is an exceptionally powerful holy warrior. As a half-angel, she can naturally wield the holy magic of Ente Isla, known as Sacred Power or Celestial Force. Her signature weapon is the sacred sword Better Half, which she can manifest at will. When fighting at full power, her physical appearance changes dramatically: her normally fuchsia or pink hair turns a brilliant silver-white, and her green eyes shift to a glowing orange-red. Her combat skills are immense, allowing her to match the Demon King in direct combat. Her arsenal of techniques includes various energy-based attacks like the Heavenly Flame Slash and Heavenly Ice Dance, the ability to create protective barriers, limited memory manipulation, the power to induce sleep in others, and the capability of flight. On Earth, her powers are severely weakened, but she can temporarily replenish them using a special concoction known as Holy Vitamin β, provided by her ally, the magician Emeralda Etuva. Despite these limitations, her resolve and resourcefulness make her an indispensable protector in a world where magic has all but disappeared.
