Description
Arajin Tomoshibi is the main character who finds himself navigating a turbulent return to his old hometown. After a five-year absence, he moves back with his mother, and together they run a Chinese restaurant called Chu Chu. His father is absent from the picture, though Arajin credits his parents for teaching him his culinary skills, which include an inherited talent for Chinese cooking. He is a slender young man with fair skin, jet-black hair parted down the middle, and reddish-brown eyes. His school uniform typically consists of a black, unbuttoned jacket over a red standing-collar shirt, sometimes with a purple tie, though early on he is also seen wearing grey half-rim glasses and carrying a bass guitar in a case on his back. His hobby is playing music, and he plays bass in a band, although his skill level is considered inadequate.

Arajin's personality is defined by a powerful aversion to conflict and a singular focus on romance. He finds no interest in the battles that dominate his new school and will actively do anything to avoid fighting, often fleeing from confrontations even though he regularly finds himself in such situations. His primary motivation is pursuing cute girls, and he becomes over-expressive and carefree when a girl engages with him, often daydreaming about their future together. This desire is distilled into a single, overwhelming wish: to lose his virginity, a goal that he prioritizes over almost everything else. Despite this self-absorbed and somewhat childish exterior, his rude and distant persona is heavily implied to be a coping mechanism.

This behavior stems from a pivotal event in his past. As a child, Arajin was once a strong-willed and caring friend who trained daily with Matakara Asamine to become strong, acting as Matakara’s guide. However, one day, young Arajin witnessed bullies ganging up on Matakara. Paralyzed by fear, he did nothing to intervene and ultimately ran away, leaving his friend to be beaten. This failure caused Arajin to shut down emotionally. He became distant and denied the friendship, adopting a cold and selfish demeanor to avoid confronting his own cowardice. He remains evasive and closes in on himself whenever his past is mentioned.

Arajin’s role in the story is set in motion when he transfers to Ichizu High School, a place filled with delinquents. On his first day, he immediately develops an intense crush on his classmate, Mahoro Jin. Shortly after, he is chased by delinquents into a shrine, where he finds an ancient revolver. After firing it, a bullet grazes his temple and awakens a powerful genie-like being named Senya. Offered any wish, Arajin surprises Senya by asking to lose his virginity. This wish binds Senya to him, and a metal bolt becomes embedded in Arajin’s head, making Senya visible only to him unless others touch the bolt. Through Senya, Arajin gains the ability to merge, granting him supernatural combat abilities, most notably a single, incredibly powerful punch.

His key relationships are primarily with Mahoro Jin, Matakara Asamine, and Senya. His feelings for Mahoro are intense but largely one-sided, as she often treats him with contempt and manipulates him for her own purposes, such as getting him to join her brother's gang. His relationship with Matakara is the emotional core of his character arc. Matakara, now a member of the Minato Kai gang, still idolizes Arajin as the brave friend from his childhood and constantly tries to rekindle their friendship, a notion that Arajin consistently and coldly rejects. His relationship with Senya is one of reluctant partnership; Senya wants Arajin to merge with him, while Arajin primarily uses his power to get out of trouble, often arguing with the invisible genie in public, which leads others to think he is insane.

Over the course of the story, Arajin experiences notable character development. He is reluctantly drawn into the conflict between the Minato Kai and Siguma Squad gangs, switching allegiances based on what benefits him, such as joining Siguma Squad to please Mahoro. However, he eventually confronts his past directly. He admits to Matakara that he is not the strong person his friend remembers, confessing his cowardice in abandoning him. By the series' conclusion, Arajin rekindles their friendship, assuring Matakara he is not alone and actively seeking to merge with Senya to rescue him, demonstrating a newfound resolve and willingness to fight for someone other than himself. His motivations also shift slightly, as his final attempt to impress Mahoro involves adopting a style that considers her preferences rather than just his own. His notable abilities, aside from his culinary skills, are entirely tied to his fusion with Senya, which allows him to perform superhuman feats of strength in combat. A mysterious lotus-shaped tattoo located above his buttocks also appears, which only Senya is aware of, and its significance remains unexplained.
