Description
Mario Vasco Debritto is the protagonist of the episode titled The King of the Forest within the anthology series Miru: Paths to My Future. He is a young man who lives in a tropical rainforest and works as a tour guide, leading visitors through the dense forest and sharing its wonders. Mario carries a quiet sadness, as he has watched the rainforest change over the years since his childhood. The gradual degradation of the environment weighs on him, and this sense of loss motivates him to protect what remains.

Mario’s deep love for nature was instilled in him by his grandfather, a figure who taught him the importance of forest preservation. His father runs the family’s tour guide company, which is Mario’s place of work. Mario also develops a connection with Clara, an optimistic activist who seeks practical ways to protect life on Earth and the forests through her everyday actions. Another notable presence in his life is the eagle known as King, the Guardian of the Forest, which watches over the vast canopy from above and symbolically represents the wild that Mario strives to defend.

Mario’s role in the story begins as a quiet observer, but it transforms when he stumbles upon an illegal gold mining site hidden deep within the rainforest. This discovery forces him to move from passive concern to active engagement, challenging his ordinary routine and pushing him to confront the forces that threaten his home. His knowledge of the forest and his guiding skills become vital as he navigates this conflict.

Throughout the episode, Mario experiences a shift from nostalgia and melancholy to determination. He does not possess any extraordinary abilities; his strengths lie in his familiarity with the rainforest environment, his steady resolve, and the values passed down by his grandfather. His development centers on taking responsibility for the natural world he loves.
