Description
Lawrence Bluewer is a British student at Weston College, the prestigious boarding school at the heart of the story. He holds the distinguished title of being one of the P4, the four prefects who oversee the dormitories, and serves as the head of the Sapphire Owl house, also known as the Blue House. This dormitory is known for housing the most academically accomplished students, and Bluewer himself is celebrated for his exceptional scholarly excellence. He comes from a large family, being the only son among eight children, with three older sisters and four younger sisters. Physically, he is a bespectacled young man with short, straight grey-blue hair and blue eyes, and he wears a blue waistcoat bearing the Sapphire Owl crest and a blue gentian flower on his collar as part of his prefect uniform.

Bluewer is characterized by a serious and studious demeanor. He is deeply dedicated to academic achievement and adheres rigidly to the school’s rules and regulations. He does not hesitate to reprimand other students, including fellow P4 members like Edgar Redmond, for infractions such as using first names or walking across the grass. His motivations are rooted in maintaining order and upholding the traditions of Weston College, and he believes in discipline and merit. He is also highly analytical, possessing a notable ability to perform meticulous calculations and devise detailed schemes to achieve his objectives, a skill that proves significant as the story unfolds.

Within the narrative, Bluewer initially appears as a strict but respected authority figure, often clashing with the more relaxed attitudes of his peers. His role becomes more complex when he is later expelled from Weston College under unclear circumstances and subsequently becomes part of the S4, a group formed outside the school. His involvement with the Sphere Music Hall and the illegal activities that take place there ultimately leads to his exposure alongside the other former P4 members. This trajectory marks a significant development, as he moves from a position of institutional power to a fallen status, entangled in the darker secrets of the arc. His key relationships are with the other P4 members—Edgar Redmond, Herman Greenhill, and Gregory Violet—with whom he shares a bond of leadership and eventual downfall. Through these connections, Bluewer’s strict facade is contrasted with the more carefree attitudes of his colleagues, highlighting the tensions within the school’s hierarchy.
