Description
Luke Notos Greyrat is a supporting character in the second season of the anime. He is a human noble from the Asura Kingdom and a member of the Notos branch of the Greyrat family, making him a cousin of Rudeus Greyrat. From a very young age, he was appointed as the guardian knight of the second princess, Ariel Anemoi Asura, serving alongside Derrick Redbat and later the court mage known as Fitz. He is the second son of the Notos Greyrat family and eventually becomes its head, also taking on the role of general manager of Ariel’s personal guard.

In terms of personality, Luke displays a stark contrast between his public and private behavior. He is known as a womanizer and a playboy, carrying a frivolous attitude toward women and a notable preference for large busts, a trait shared by many Greyrat men. However, beneath this carefree exterior, he is deeply fervent and serious about his duties as Ariel’s protector. His loyalty to her is absolute, and her safety and well-being are his highest priorities. He is often insecure about his own abilities, aware that he is only a mediocre knight compared to the powerful figures around him, such as Rudeus or Eris. This insecurity makes him vulnerable to manipulation.

His primary motivation is protecting Princess Ariel and securing her claim to the throne of Asura. He is deeply devoted to her and has been by her side since childhood, viewing her as both his liege and a trusted companion. His secondary motivation is upholding the honor of the Greyrat name, though he sometimes feels overshadowed by his more talented cousin.

In the story, Luke plays a key supporting role during Ariel’s period of exile at Ranoa Magic University. He initially views Rudeus with suspicion, fearing that the unusual mage might disrupt their plans or break Sylphiette’s heart. Over time, he comes to accept Rudeus and even indirectly helps him overcome his erectile dysfunction by providing an aphrodisiac that Sylphiette uses. Later, he becomes a target of the god Hitogami, who appears in his dreams and plants doubts that Rudeus will eventually betray Ariel. Under this influence, Luke nearly turns against the party, going so far as to take Ariel hostage with the blunt side of his blade, unable to truly harm her. He ultimately resists Hitogami’s words and reaffirms his loyalty, with Ariel choosing to keep him by her side.

Key relationships define his character arc. With Ariel, he is utterly devoted, treating her with utmost reverence and placing her needs above all else. With Rudeus, their relationship evolves from wariness to a grudging alliance, and Luke learns to trust him despite their differences. With Sylphiette (disguised as Fitz), he is a longtime ally and fellow guardian, fighting alongside her for years. With Hitogami, he serves as a pawn who almost succumbs but ultimately breaks free, demonstrating his core integrity.

Luke’s development centers on overcoming his self-doubt and proving that loyalty and dedication matter more than raw power. He grows from a suspicious, insecure noble into a confident leader who accepts his own limitations while never wavering in his duty. In an alternate timeline where Rudeus never existed, Luke would have married Eris Boreas Greyrat and lived happily with her.

His notable abilities are modest compared to the main cast. He is a competent swordsman but not exceptional, as demonstrated when Rudeus defeats him easily in a duel even without using magic. His true skills lie in political maneuvering, courtly etiquette, and unwavering service rather than combat prowess. As head of the Notos family and future ruler of Asura’s personal guard, he becomes a significant political figure in the kingdom. He also possesses a strong will that allows him to resist divine manipulation, a testament to his inner strength.
