Description
Philia is a homunculus created by the Einzbern family who appears in Fate/strange Fake as a rogue figure separated from her clan's original plans. In the world of the story, she is a fugitive pursued by Bazett Fraga McRemitz, an enforcer mage. Philia is later found and saved by Francesca Prelati, who decides to use her as the Lesser Grail for the parallel True and False Holy Grail Wars taking place in Snowfield. Before the war begins, Philia gives Ayaka Sajou a set of five special Command Spells and tells her to travel to Snowfield, an act that helps set Ayaka's participation in the conflict in motion.

Philia's role changes dramatically after the summoning of the True Berserker. At that point, her body comes to be possessed by an existence on a higher level than a Heroic Spirit, which is later revealed to be the Mesopotamian goddess Ishtar. From then on, Philia's physical form serves as a vessel for Ishtar, and the homunculus body continues to function as the Lesser Grail of the ritual. Ishtar's presence is remarkable because gods are normally prevented from participating in Holy Grail Wars, but the Snowfield war has become so irregular and has drawn in so many figures connected to Mesopotamian myth that a genuine goddess was able to manifest.

In terms of personality, the Philia seen before Ishtar's possession is defined mostly by her actions rather than by extensive dialogue. She is a quiet figure who sets events in motion and entrusts important resources, such as the Command Spells, to another person. Once Ishtar takes over, the personality on display becomes that of the goddess: bold, openly confident, and unwilling to hide her nature. She admits who she is quite easily even though her claim is difficult for others to believe, and she behaves with the willfulness expected of a divine being. Her conduct is driven by a desire for revenge and a wish to stir chaos in the Snowfield war, with the Fake Archer, Gilgamesh, singled out as a target of her schemes.

Philia's role in the story is that of both a ritual component and a wild card. As the Lesser Grail, she is central to the war's mechanics, but under Ishtar's control she becomes an active combatant and strategist rather than a passive vessel. In the anime, she enters Snowfield early in the story and remains in the background until the injuries suffered by Halri Vorzak, the Master of the True Berserker, give her an opening. She heals Halri with exceptional speed, and Halri, who recognizes what Philia truly is because she is a mage, becomes her ally. This alliance gives Ishtar access to Halri's Servant, the True Berserker, who obeys the goddess without needing Command Spells, making the group one of the most formidable forces in the war.

Philia's key relationships define much of her arc. Francesca Prelati rescues her and repurposes her as a component of the Grail ritual, placing her in the middle of the war. Bazett Fraga McRemitz acts as a pursuer of Philia, representing the danger of her past. Ayaka Sajou receives Philia's Command Spells and is directed to Snowfield by her, creating an indirect but important connection between them. Halri Vorzak is the Master with whom Philia, in Ishtar's possession, forms a practical alliance, with Halri recognizing Philia's true identity. The True Berserker serves as the military strength of that alliance, deferring to Ishtar's authority.

Notable abilities connected to Philia come from both her original nature and her possessor. As a homunculus built in the Einzbern tradition, her body is suited to act as the Lesser Grail, the vessel at the center of the Holy Grail War. Under Ishtar's possession, she displays healing power capable of restoring a critically wounded person almost instantly, goddess-class combat strength, and the ability to interrupt battles and challenge other participants at will. Her presence alone can shift the balance of the conflict because a true deity operates beyond what the flawed ritual was designed to contain. The character's development is presented in stages: first as the mysterious giver of Command Spells, then as the healer who aligns herself with Halri, and finally as the revealed vessel of Ishtar, with the possession transforming her from a hunted homunculus into one of the most consequential figures in the Snowfield war.
