Description
Ains is a minor but pivotal character in Grendizer U, serving as a personal maid to Princess Rubina of the Vegan Empire. Of Euphorian origin, Ains is a young woman whose primary duty is to attend to the princess, but her role carries an undercurrent of surveillance, as she is also tasked with ensuring Rubina does not attempt to make contact with Duke Fleed, the prince of Fleed who has taken refuge on Earth. This dual responsibility places her in a delicate position, caught between her loyalty to her charge and her obligations to the Vegan court.

In her capacity as a lady-in-waiting, Ains demonstrates a quiet but determined sense of duty. She appears in the series when the Vegan sisters, Teronna and Rubina, are actively pursuing Duke. Ains is notably present during a critical moment in the narrative when Rubina decides to take a significant personal risk. Rubina composes a letter containing a secret marriage proposal intended for Duke Fleed, and it is Ains who is entrusted with the dangerous mission of delivering this missive to Earth. This act requires her to sneak away from the Vegan starship, putting herself at considerable risk to serve her princess's wishes.

Her actions directly intersect with the character of Teronna, Rubina's older twin sister. Teronna intercepts Ains as she is attempting to leave with the letter. Ains is forced to surrender the proposal to the suspicious and protective princess. However, in a surprising turn, after reading the letter and understanding its contents, Teronna decides not to stop the delivery. She returns the letter to Ains and instructs her to proceed with her mission, but to keep Teronna's secret permission hidden, even from Rubina herself. This interaction reveals that Ains is perceived as trustworthy and capable by both sisters, serving as a conduit for their complex, conflicting plans regarding Duke.

Ains's role is thus that of a facilitator in the story's dramatic romantic subplot. Her successful delivery of the letter allows the wedding ceremony to take place, an event that has tragic and far-reaching consequences for the relationship between Duke, Teronna, and Rubina. While she does not pilot a combat mecha or engage in the series' central giant robot battles, her quiet actions in the service of her princess make her an essential agent of the plot, directly enabling one of the series' key turning points.
