Description
Glen Garia serves as the Guildmaster of the Adventurers Guild, a position that places him as the highest authority within the organization. In his youth, he was renowned as the most powerful adventurer of his generation, fighting on the front lines as a greatsword-wielding member of the elite party known as the Silver Sword. His career as an adventurer came to an abrupt end at the age of twenty-five following a tragic expedition into the legendary S-rank Labyrinth of Ash. Although he successfully conquered the dungeon, he lost all his companions from the Silver Sword in the process. After this devastating event, he declared that the adventurer known as Glen Garia had died alongside them and soon after accepted the role of Guildmaster.
Glen's personality has undergone a significant transformation over the course of his life. As a young adventurer, he was known for being cold, stubborn, and deeply individualistic, with a demeanor so distant that even his own teammates avoided him. He adhered strictly to rules and was often regarded as lacking human warmth. This hard exterior began to change when he was forced by the Kensei, the Sword Saint, to adopt a daughter named Lin at the age of eighteen as a form of training to understand the value of family. The presence of his adoptive daughter brought out a more human and nuanced side to his character. In his current role, despite maintaining a firm demeanor, he is known by his secretary, Fili, to occasionally use his abilities to evade tedious administrative tasks.
His motivations are deeply rooted in the trauma of his past. The loss of his comrades, and later the death of his biological daughter, left him consumed by regret and a desperate desire to change history. This obsession drove him to become the enigmatic man in black, secretly working behind the scenes. To gain the power to alter the past, he implanted a Demon Core into his left arm, an act that required resurrecting a demon and sacrificing other adventurers. This transformation allowed his innate ability to evolve into a more powerful form, which he used to travel back in time repeatedly in an attempt to prevent the tragedy of the Labyrinth of Ash.
Within the story, Glen plays a complex and dual role. He is initially presented as a formidable authority figure who confronts the protagonist, Alina Clover, having used his unique skill to peer into the past and discover her secret identity as the Executioner. He offers her a chance to keep her receptionist job by defeating him in combat. However, it is later revealed that he has also been collaborating with Alina and her party to investigate the man in black, all while being that very person himself. His secret lair is the underground floor of the former Fortress of Ash, which now serves as the guild headquarters, where he accumulated power to fuel his attempts at time travel. In the end, he is consumed by the will of the demon within him but manages to survive by severing his contaminated arm, ultimately failing to resurrect his lost loved ones despite his immense power and tragic determination.
Glen's key relationships significantly define his character arc. His bond with his adoptive daughter, Lin, is the primary catalyst for his emotional development, teaching him humanity. He holds great respect for the abilities of Jade Scrade, openly praising his strength. His secretary, Fili, is often left to manage his duties when he uses his powers to escape work, highlighting his more mischievous side. His interactions with Alina Clover are central to the plot, moving from confrontation and blackmail to a complex cooperation as she inadvertently becomes involved in his larger schemes regarding the demon's resurrection.
Glen possesses extraordinary abilities centered on temporal manipulation. His innate super skill is called Sigurth Chronos, or the Time Observer. This ability allows him to stop time for everyone except himself and a selected target. It also grants him the power to observe past events, which is how he discovered Alina's secret. However, this skill does not allow him to change the past or observe objects that are stopped in time. After fusing with the Demon Core, his ability evolved into a higher-ranked version known as Dia Chronos, or Titan's Time Manipulation. This enhanced skill enables him to physically travel to and influence the past, although even this power is insufficient to reverse human death.
