TV-Series
Description
Douglas Hadine, often called Doug, is a central member of the Lazarus team. He is a young Black man of Nigerian origin with a lean and capable build. His appearance is marked by his distinctive locs, which he ties back into a neat ponytail, and he is almost always seen wearing silver, round-framed glasses that complement his focused expression. His typical attire consists of a zip-up turtleneck under a black blazer with subtle grayish accent lines, paired with small golden earrings.

His background is rooted in academia and personal principle. Doug is a graduate in Physics from Stanford University, where he worked as a university researcher alongside his mentor, a Professor Claude. Despite his evident intellect and promise, his academic career was cut short. He was expelled after punching the dean of the university, a rash act of retaliation provoked by the dean's racist assertion that Black men could not become great scientists or win the Nobel Prize. In his earlier years as a student, he held great respect for the scientist Dr. Skinner.

Personality-wise, Doug serves as the brains of the Lazarus team. He is consistently portrayed as calm, collected, and methodical, often keeping his composure even when provoked by more volatile teammates like Axel or Chris. This reserved and intellectual exterior, however, belies a warm heart and a deep-seated, passionate drive. He is a perfectionist and a strategic thinker, preferring to use his head before acting in any given situation.

Doug's core motivation is tied to his sense of justice and intellectual integrity. While he is part of the team to stop the catastrophic effects of the Hapna drug and find Dr. Skinner, his personal history reveals someone who is unwilling to let prejudice or injustice stand, even at great personal cost to his own career. His survival of the airport incident that released the Hapna sample also ties him directly to the central crisis of the world.

In the story, Doug is a supporting protagonist and a critical asset to the Lazarus mission, which is overseen by the National Security Agency’s Dr. Hersch Lindemann. The team is comprised of individuals recruited for their unique, often criminal, skills, including Axel Gilberto, Christine Blake, Leland Astor, and Eleina. Within this group, Doug acts as the coordinator and the intellectual anchor. His primary relationships on the team are professional, leveraging his genius to devise plans and solve problems, though he must constantly navigate the chaotic methods of his colleagues.

Throughout the narrative, Doug demonstrates significant development from a disgraced academic to an operative in a high-stakes global pursuit. He, along with four other survivors of the airport incident, later developed a natural resistance to the toxic effects of the drug Hapna, a key trait that makes him indispensable to the mission. This event, where almost everyone else at the scene died instantly, is the traumatic origin point for his role as a member of Lazarus.

Doug possesses a range of notable abilities. His primary asset is his genius-level intellect, which he applies to strategy and field tactics. Despite his academic background, he is also highly capable in physical combat. His martial arts proficiency allows him to effectively engage in close-quarters combat, demonstrated when he slammed a man through a concrete and glass table. He is an elite marksman with firearms, capable of impressive feats such as scoring three headshots in quick succession while simultaneously driving a boat. He is also identified as the best driver on the Lazarus team, showcasing exceptional vehicular mastery over cars and watercraft. His physical durability and stamina are also high, as he has been shown to continue fighting effectively even after being run over by a car, quickly recovering to shoot out a tire to stop a pursuit.
