Makoto Furukawa
Description
Makoto Furukawa is a Japanese voice actor and singer born on September 29, 1989, in Kumamoto Prefecture. His interest in voice acting began at the age of five, inspired by Hikaru Midorikawa's performance as Heero Yuy in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. This early fascination led him to pursue formal training at a vocational school after learning that Midorikawa would be a special lecturer there.
Furukawa made his professional debut in 2011, with one of his first roles being Satoshi Yoshino in the web anime Busou Chuukou. In the early years of his career, he gained experience in a wide variety of supporting roles across numerous television series. His first leading role in a TV anime came in 2013 when he was cast as Banri Tada in Golden Time. This was followed by other significant leads, such as Kamito Kazehaya in Bladedance of Elementalers in 2014.
A major turning point in his career was landing the role of the titular protagonist, Saitama, in the massively popular series One Punch Man in 2015. This performance brought him widespread recognition and solidified his status as a leading voice actor. He continued to take on high-profile roles, including Miyuki Shirogane in Kaguya-sama: Love is War, Benimaru in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, and Taiju Ōki in Dr. Stone. His versatility is demonstrated through a wide range of characters, from the intense Shaddiq Zenelli in Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury and the skilled Tabito Karasu in BLUELOCK to the more comedic Ronaldo in The Vampire Dies in No Time. He has also taken on roles in live-action adaptations, such as voicing Ryū Terui in the anime FUUTO PI, based on the Kamen Rider series.
In 2018, Furukawa expanded his artistic endeavors by debuting as a solo singer under the Lantis record label. His second single, "Chizu ga Nakute mo Madorukara," was used as the ending theme song for the second season of One Punch Man. After being affiliated with Space Craft Entertainment for six years, he left the agency in August 2018 to work as a freelancer before joining his current agency, Toy's Factory, in December of the same year.
Furukawa's talent has been recognized with several industry awards. In 2016, he won the Best New Male Radio Personality award at the 2nd Anime Radio Awards for his work on the One Punch Man radio program. His most notable accolade came in 2020 when he received the Award for Best Supporting Actor at the 14th Seiyu Awards, a testament to his skill and growing prominence in the industry.
