Description
Rive Shindō, bearing the surname combining "fresh, new" (新) and "guidance, leading, conduct, usher" (導), is Mikuru Shindō's elder brother, Chrono Shindō's father, and Tokimi Shindō's husband. He possesses green eyes, dark pale blue spiky hair, and a long scar crossing his face over the bridge of his nose. His typical attire consists of black slacks, a white dress shirt, and a red vest, though he later often conceals his identity beneath a desert cloak.

A decade before Cardfight!! Vanguard G, Rive co-founded FIVA and collaborated with Ryuzu Myoujin to investigate links between Earth and Cray. Their research culminated in summoning Chrono Dran. Discovering Ryuzu's plan to sacrifice Cray for Earth, Rive overloaded the portal generator, stole three Depend Cards, and escaped with Chrono Dran and his infant son Chrono. To protect Chrono, Rive altered his memory of the incident, leading to Chrono's placement in an orphanage and fostering Mikuru's resentment toward Vanguard. Though a grave marker appeared in VR Episode 30, Rive survived in hiding.

During the earlier Shinemon Arc, Rive served as a cardfighting mentor to Shinemon Nitta, who regarded him as exceptional. However, Rive avoided serious responsibilities and frequently withdrew from consequential situations. He used a Nova Grappler deck focused on Fighting Fist Dragon, God Hand Dragon, utilizing unit skills to amplify Front triggers and extra drive checks. Later, Ryuzu provided him with a Gear Chronicle deck featuring Chronojet Dragon for testing. Despite his influence, Rive deliberately refrained from assisting Shinemon's team during tournaments to prevent dependency, opting instead for a commentator role.

Rive sacrificed part of his lifespan to sustain Chrono Dran, ultimately leaving him immobilized. Between the movie Neon Messiah and the G series, he encountered Kouji Ibuki, revealing Ryuzu's ambitions and entrusting Ibuki with the Gear Chronicle clan and the mission to stop Ryuzu. He instructed Ibuki to give Chrono the deck and Depend Cards when ready, but to conceal his survival to protect his family. After Chrono created Chrono Dran's card from a blank Depend Card, Rive sent Chrono Dran to him. Ryuzu later revealed Rive's survival to Chrono during their confrontation.

At the Shinemon Arc's conclusion, Rive intervened to save Chrono from entrapment on Cray, resulting in his own imprisonment there. His memory-altering ability parallels PSYqualia users like Aichi Sendou.
