Description
Kenichiro Ryuzaki, most often called by his nickname Kencho, is a main character and the best friend of the protagonist, Akira Tendou. He is a 25-year-old man with a tall, athletic, and well-built physique. His most recognizable features are his energetic olive-brown eyes and his formerly black hair, which he has dyed blonde with the sides shaven and left undyed, allowing two long strands to frame his face. His typical outfit consists of a blue unbuttoned dress shirt that reveals his toned body, paired with hot pink pants and brown dress shoes.

Before the zombie apocalypse, Kencho worked as a salesman for a major real estate company. To his friend Akira, he boasted of a successful life, having dinner with politicians and dating a model. However, this was a complete facade. In reality, he despised his job, which required him to lie to clients and trick them into signing bad contracts, a practice that filled him with immense guilt. His true, lifelong dream was never to be a salesman but to become a comedian who could make people genuinely smile.

Kencho’s personality is lively, funny, and highly energetic, matching Akira's own spirit once he is freed from the constraints of corporate life. He is an excellent communicator and often serves as the heart of the group, raising everyone's spirits and providing comic relief. He has a well-known, almost comical disregard for modesty, frequently and without hesitation stripping off his clothes to serve as a distraction for zombies or to accomplish a task. Despite his goofy and often lecherous exterior, Kencho is deeply thoughtful and loyal. He is also a self-proclaimed womanizer and has had several short-lived romantic encounters with various women throughout the story.

Kencho’s primary role in the story is as the first member and a core pillar of Akira’s travel group. After being saved by Akira from a love hotel where he was trapped with a zombified woman, Kencho finally confessed his true feelings about his old job. This confession leads him to abandon his old life and join Akira on his journey to complete a bucket list, adding his own dream of becoming a comedian to the list as well. His role is often that of a loyal supporter, a cheerleader for Akira’s often reckless ideas, and a reliable ally who can be counted on in a pinch, even if his methods are unorthodox. He has previously played rugby and is physically strong, which aids him in surviving the apocalypse.

The most significant relationship in Kencho's life is with Akira Tendou, his best friend and former college rugby club teammate. Their bond is the foundation of the group, and Kencho is fiercely loyal, often blaming himself when his injuries put Akira in a difficult position. He is also perceptive of Akira's feelings for their companion Shizuka Mikazuki and makes a point not to interfere. With Shizuka, Kencho shares a comfortable dynamic, often reacting to Akira’s antics with exasperation and forming a pragmatic duo with her. Later in the story, he becomes immediately infatuated with Beatrix Amerhauser, a skilled foreign samurai, though his blatant lust often repels her despite his genuine care.

Kencho undergoes significant development from his introduction. He begins as a deeply unhappy man hiding behind a facade of success. The zombie apocalypse, paradoxically, becomes his liberation, providing him with the catalyst to abandon his hated job and pursue his true passion for comedy. Throughout the journey, he actively works on his bucket list items, which include performing as a comedian and bringing smiles to people's faces, achieving most of his goals over the course of the series. He also carries the guilt of not being able to spend more time with his beloved grandfather, who was a father figure to him, and one of his key goals is to visit his grandfather's grave.

Kencho possesses no superhuman powers but relies on his natural physical attributes and quick thinking. He has fast reflexes and raw strength, likely honed from his rugby days. He is also noted for having an unusually high resistance to electricity, as shown when he survives contact with a high-voltage electric fence. His most notable ability, however, is his willingness to use his own body as a tool, whether by acting as a loud, naked decoy for zombies or by putting himself in harm's way to protect his friends.
