Description
Ortho Sheet, known simply as Ortho, is a supporting character in the anime Easygoing Territory Defense by the Optimistic Lord. He is an adventurer who leads a small adventurer party, and he enters the story when his group is hired to escort the young noble Van Ney Fertio on the journey to the remote frontier village that Van has been assigned to govern. At first, the arrangement is a straightforward business contract: Ortho and his companions protect Van along the road in exchange for payment, with no particular attachment to their charge or his destination.
Over the course of that journey, however, Ortho is moved by Van's resolve and sincerity. Where the escort might have seen only a disgraced child sent to a poor village, Ortho comes to recognize genuine conviction in the young lord, and this changes the nature of their relationship. Rather than completing the job and moving on to the next contract, he chooses to make the village his party's new base of operations, effectively committing his group to Van's cause. His decision represents a shift from a transactional escort agreement to a lasting bond of trust, and it is through this choice that his party becomes closely associated with the territory as it develops.
Within the story, Ortho serves as one of Van's early allies and as proof that capable outsiders can be drawn to the village's potential. As Van's domain expands from a modest rural settlement into a fortified and economically active city, Ortho and his companions remain part of that growth, lending their experience as adventurers to both its defense and its daily life. He is counted among the cooperators of the Kingdom of Scuderria who support Van as the young lord rises in status and influence.
His adventurer party includes Pururier, a water magic user who is likewise drawn to Van's charisma and relocates her activity base to the village, and Kusara, a swift scout who supports the group with mobility and reconnaissance. As their leader, Ortho is responsible for coordinating the party, and his role implies solid combat experience and the ability to operate in dangerous frontier regions where monsters and bandits are common threats.
Ortho's development across the series is defined by his growing loyalty to Van and the village. Beginning as a mercenary whose services were purchased for a fee, he becomes a trusted figure who chose to stand with Van out of respect and belief in the village's future. His presence illustrates a recurring theme in the story: Van's honesty and determination attract loyal and capable people to his side, and Ortho is one of the first outsiders to invest his own future in that promise.
