Description
Hatsuharu Sohma, frequently called Haru, displays a striking two-toned appearance with white hair and black roots, mirroring his dual nature. His typical punk-inspired style features leather accessories, multiple ear piercings, and a green arm tattoo, often worn defiantly against school uniform rules.

Haru navigates between two selves: "White Haru" and "Black Haru." As "White Haru," he is calm, respectful, observant, and empathetic, though his deadpan delivery and eccentric thoughts can confuse others. Provocation—like rejection, confrontation, or emotional distress—triggers "Black Haru," a loud, violent, sexually suggestive, and destructive state. This duality formed in childhood as a defense against family taunts labeling him "stupid" due to the zodiac legend where the Ox was tricked by the Rat.

Cursed as the Ox, he transforms into a black-and-white cow when embraced by non-cursed members of the opposite sex or under extreme stress, reverting to human form unclothed. He also suffers from an extreme lack of directional sense, frequently becoming lost for days.

Childhood taunts from Sohma adults about his zodiac-assigned "stupidity" led Haru to initially blame Yuki Sohma (the Rat). Confronting Yuki with bottled rage, Haru reconsidered after Yuki challenged if Haru truly believed himself stupid. Recognizing the manipulation, Haru developed profound loyalty and affection for Yuki, later calling him his "first love." He facilitated Yuki's escape from the Sohma main house to Shigure's home.

Haru later formed a romantic relationship with Isuzu Sohma (Rin). After they consummated their bond, Akito discovered them and pushed Rin from a window, hospitalizing her. Rin ended the relationship to protect Haru, causing him severe emotional turmoil that triggered a destructive "Black Haru" episode where he vandalized his classroom. Learning her true motive led to reconciliation. His protective nature extends to younger zodiac members like Kisa and Hiro, who see him as an older brother.

During the curse's breaking, Haru was with Rin, and both sensed its dissolution. They acknowledged the loss while comforting each other. At Akito's final banquet, Haru affirmed his enduring love for Yuki, amusingly provoking Rin's jealousy before reassuring her.

In "Fruits Basket Another," Haru marries Rin, and they have twin children, Sora and Riku. He maintains friendships with zodiac members like Momiji, reflecting on their lives beyond the curse.
