ONA
Description
Gensai is a samurai and a senior disciple of Iemon, appearing in the Onimusha anime series. His background is rooted in loyalty to his master, but his journey takes a dark turn when Iemon betrays his lord. Following this betrayal, Gensai is sent alongside other men to assist the legendary swordsman Musashi Miyamoto in his mission to stop Iemon.

In terms of personality, Gensai is portrayed as a conflicted individual, deeply emotional and torn by the events unfolding around him. Despite the mission to stop his former master, he reveals a profound sense of longing and sorrow, as he confesses to Musashi that he misses Iemon. This vulnerability, however, is coupled with a fierce protectiveness, as he becomes agitated and attacks Musashi when asked about his intentions to kill Iemon, suggesting a deep, unresolved loyalty to the traitorous master.

Gensai's primary motivation appears to stem from this conflicting loyalty; he is torn between his duty to stop a traitor and his personal affection for the man he once followed. His role in the story is ultimately that of a tragic antagonist, manipulated and used as a vessel. In a pivotal moment, it is revealed that Gensai has been transformed into a Genma, a demon. By this point, Iemon is not physically present but speaks through Gensai, having taken control of his tongue and body to issue orders, such as commanding Gensai to avenge the fallen Kensuke Matsuki. This makes Gensai a direct physical threat to Musashi and his companions.

His key relationships are defined by his connection to Iemon, his master, and his role as an adversary to Musashi Miyamoto. The bond with Iemon is the central tragedy of his character, as his loyalty is exploited, and his body is used as a tool for Iemon's will. His encounters with Musashi are entirely combative, serving as a test of Musashi's resolve and newfound power.

Gensai's development is one of complete tragedy, transforming from a grieving disciple into a demonic puppet. His notable abilities are monstrous and grotesque, stemming from his Genma transformation. He possesses a long, prehensile tongue that he uses as a powerful weapon. With this tongue, he can block projectiles like a thrown torch, strike with incredible force to pin Musashi to a tree, and deliver a brutal beating. Despite the immense power granted by his demonic form, he is ultimately overwhelmed and killed by Musashi after the swordsman receives the Oni Gauntlet, which dramatically enhances his strength and speed, allowing him to cut Gensai into numerous pieces.
