Description
Ludwin Arcs is a nobleman and military figure within the Kingdom of Elfrieden, later known as the Kingdom of Friedonia. As the last member of House Arcs, he inherited rulership over the Arcs fiefdom situated between Parnam and Venetinova. His parents died prior to the main events, placing responsibility for his domain and its patronage over House Maxwell upon him. This close familial tie resulted in him growing up alongside Genia Maxwell, with both considering each other siblings due to their shared orphaned status.
Tall with a sturdy build, Ludwin possesses a handsome appearance marked by long, straight blonde hair and typically dons the fluted armor of the Royal Guard. His personality blends intelligence, charisma, and a strong sense of duty, yet he maintains a deliberately simple lifestyle. This simplicity stems partly from his commitment to funding Genia's scientific research, which he views as vital to the kingdom's progress.
Initially serving as leader of the Royal Guard and acting commander of the Forbidden Army, Ludwin swiftly pledged loyalty to Kazuya Souma following the latter's ascension to the throne. He played a key advisory and operational role during the kingdom's restructuring, including assessing Aisha Udgard's capabilities and recommending her as a royal bodyguard. His military leadership became prominent during the One Week War, where he served as acting commanding officer against Duke Georg Carmine's rebellion and the invading Amidonian forces. His effective strategies in this conflict led to his appointment as second-in-command of the newly formed National Defense Force under Excel Walter, a position intended as training for eventual supreme command.
Ludwin facilitated Kazuya's introduction to Genia Maxwell, apologizing in advance for her eccentric behavior after she appropriated a dragon skeleton discovered by the Forbidden Army. This meeting proved strategically important as Genia's research capabilities became invaluable. Later, despite mutual embarrassment, Ludwin and Genia agreed to marry at the encouragement of Kazuya and Liscia, acknowledging their preexisting feelings. The marriage occurred during Kazuya's coronation and wedding celebrations. Their relationship involves Ludwin frequently observing Genia's research, sometimes alongside Souji Lester, with both men occasionally serving as test subjects. Their private moments have reportedly been interrupted by Trill Euphoria's persistent attention toward Genia.
As a military leader, Ludwin demonstrates tactical competence, securing victories against opponents including Georg Carmine, Gaius Amidonia, and demon forces. His leadership style emphasizes delegation to capable subordinates like Kaede Foxia and Halbert Magna. Personally, he is a skilled combatant, capable of holding his own against elite warriors such as Aisha during their initial encounter. Beyond martial prowess, he possesses engineering knowledge, often engaging with technological developments through Genia's work.
