A2, also designated as YoRHa A-Type Number 2, is a female android who serves as a prototype combat unit specialized in close-quarters fighting. She has long, silvery-white hair that reaches her waist and, unlike standard YoRHa androids, she does not wear the customary combat visor, leaving her eyes exposed. As a deserter operating independently, her clothing is notably torn and worn, contrasting with the pristine uniforms of active members like 2B and 9S. A2 is taciturn and solitary, a hardened individual who spent years focused on slaughtering machine lifeforms, earning a reputation as a cold and efficient killer. Beneath her fierce and stubborn exterior lies a hidden compassion. Her motivations are rooted in the trauma of the catastrophic Pearl Harbor Descent mission, during which her entire YoRHa squadron and their Resistance allies were systematically destroyed or infected by a logic virus. Learning that YoRHa Command had intentionally abandoned her squad, she cut all ties with the organization and became a rogue agent driven by a deep hatred for machines. A2 eventually inherits Pod 042 as her companion and absorbs 2B's memories, positioning her as a successor to 2B's will while becoming the target of a grief-maddened 9S who seeks revenge. Her key relationships include an emotional reunion with Lily, the sole other survivor of the Pearl Harbor mission, and a reluctant bond with Pascal, a peaceful machine lifeform, whose village she is forced to stay in after being incapacitated by a damaged fuel filter. Through interactions with Pascal and the village's machine children, she begins to recognize the humanity in her enemies. As a combat unit, A2 is highly proficient in close-quarters combat and possesses a unique experimental ability called Berserk Mode, which greatly increases her offensive power at the cost of her own health.
