Description
Operator 6O is a communications operator and a member of YoRHa in the anime NieR:Automata Ver1.1a. She is an O-Type operator model, a designation that places her in a support role rather than a frontline combat position. She is permanently stationed aboard the Bunker, the orbital command base used by YoRHa, and she never deploys to the surface of Earth. Her duties center on relaying orders, directives, and mission information from headquarters to active YoRHa soldiers operating on the ground, and she also handles command transmission and information analysis alongside the other operators stationed in the Bunker, such as Operator 21O. She is specifically assigned to support the combat android 2B, serving as the main point of contact who guides 2B through missions, provides updates and instructions, and assesses battlefield information in real time.
In personality, Operator 6O is gentler and brighter than her fellow operator 21O. She is warm, outgoing, energetic, and cheerful, with a sweet-hearted nature that shows in the way she interacts with the soldiers she supports. Although she carries out her duties professionally, she regularly offers words of encouragement and praise, and she takes genuine personal interest in the well-being of the units under her care. Her dedication is especially strong toward 2B, and her concern goes beyond simple operational efficiency, as she shows compassion for 2B's safety and emotional state as the war takes its toll.
Her motivations are rooted in both devotion to her work and a quiet emotional longing. She cares deeply about fulfilling her role in supporting YoRHa units, particularly 2B, and she takes pride in being reliable and helpful. At the same time, she suffers emotionally from the fact that she is permanently confined to the Bunker and can never see Earth for herself. Her conversations with field units carry a sense of longing and even a wistful romanticization of the surface world, and she feels slightly envious of the soldiers who get to experience the planet directly. This tension between her cheerful exterior and her unfulfilled desire to witness the world below gives her character a gentle melancholy.
Her role in the story is that of a supporting presence rather than a central actor. She appears primarily through radio transmissions and brief interactions within the Bunker, providing logistical guidance and emotional reassurance to the main characters as they fight on Earth. She is part of the recurring cast across the anime, appearing in both parts of the series, and her exchanges with 2B are among her most meaningful moments. Through these interactions, she develops a caring bond with 2B, marked by loyalty and concern, and she also works alongside Operator 21O as a fellow member of the Bunker's communications team, with the two operators contrasting each other in temperament.
In terms of abilities, Operator 6O has no combat role and does not engage in battle. Her strengths lie in communication, coordination, and information handling. She is able to monitor field operations, relay intelligence, transmit orders from command, and keep soldiers informed of changing conditions during missions, all from her station aboard the Bunker. Her importance to the story comes not from direct action but from the steady, humane presence she provides behind the scenes of the conflict, and from the emotional depth her quiet longing for Earth adds to her character.
