Description
Elsie is a fifteen year old girl who serves as a personal handmaiden to Rishe Irmgard Weitzner, the crown princess of the kingdom of Galkhein. She is of small stature, standing 153 centimeters tall, and is recognized by her short, silky, light blonde hair. Elsie’s face is typically impassive, and she generally has difficulty expressing her emotions outwardly, giving her a reserved and quiet demeanor.
Born and raised in the poor quarter of Galkhein, Elsie grew up in an environment of scarcity. Her family was impoverished, and her primary concern was securing enough food for her younger siblings. This upbringing forced her to be independent and practical from a young age. Having never been able to afford pretty accessories or nice clothes, she developed a hidden, deep-seated love for beautiful and cute things, a stark contrast to her otherwise stoic exterior. Her motivation for becoming a maid was to help support her family financially, and the salary she earns allows her to buy necessities like meat and vegetables for them.
Elsie is hired as one of twenty new maids from the city to attend to Rishe upon her arrival at the royal palace. She is the only one among them from the poor quarter. Rishe takes a liking to Elsie and appoints her as her personal handmaiden despite her lack of credentials. At first, Elsie finds herself torn, secretly instructed by Prince Theodore Auguste Hein to act as a spy and participate in a plot to kidnap Rishe. This causes her great guilt as she comes to appreciate Rishe’s kindness and character. However, Rishe is aware of the scheme from the start and willingly allows herself to be captured to uncover more about Theodore’s plans. The pivotal moment of the attempted kidnapping serves as a turning point for Elsie, who fully rejects her former loyalties and becomes a devoted and trustworthy ally to Rishe.
Following this event, Elsie’s role in the story solidifies as one of Rishe’s most trusted confidantes. She participates in Rishe’s various endeavors, including a project to support the poor quarter through nail polish production and even assists Rishe in disguising herself as a man to infiltrate the knightly order. The bond between Elsie and Rishe is one of deep loyalty and mutual respect, with Elsie admiring Rishe’s determination and kindness, even stating her favorite nail polish color is the same as Rishe’s hair.
Elsie has a key relationship with Kamil, a knight in the service of Prince Arnold Hein. They are childhood friends, and while Kamil harbors romantic feelings for her, Elsie is completely oblivious to them. She also forms a close friendship with Diana, another maid, from whom she learns to read and write.
Elsie possesses notable abilities born from her difficult childhood. Having cared for her younger siblings for years, she is extremely dexterous with her hands and demonstrates a particular talent for preparing and styling elegant clothing. This skill proves to be a great asset to her in her role as a personal maid.
