TV-Series
Description
Daleth is a powerful witch who serves as the leader of the witches' coven, a role she holds following the death of her twin sister, Sade. She is first encountered by the Duke and Alice when they attend a Witches' Sabbath, a gathering she oversees as the de facto leader of their community.
Daleth's personal history is deeply intertwined with that of her sister, Sade. The two looked remarkably alike, a resemblance that led to fear and confusion. This became a source of irritation for Sade, who, for the sole reason that their identical appearances were confusing, scarred Daleth's face. This traumatic event left Daleth with deep psychological scars, fostering a profound inferiority complex and a deep-seated fear of her sister. To hide her facial scar and her identity, she began wearing a skull mask and clothes that concealed her appearance. Her white nun's habit is noted as a precious gift from her father, which she is reluctant to part with despite the painful memories associated with her likeness to Sade.
In terms of personality, Daleth is described as gentle, empathetic, and reserved. She is notably shy, especially around men, and suffers from a lack of self-confidence, a trait that may be compounded by her extremely long life, which spans over 150 years. She is considered kind and is popular among her subordinate witches, a stark contrast to the tyrannical rule of her late sister. Despite her powerful status, her inexperience with romantic matters makes her easily flustered and touched by kindness. She is also portrayed as a cautious and slightly unpredictable figure, keeping secrets from the Duke and Alice about the nature of his curse while also showing moments of care towards them.
Throughout the story, Daleth's primary motivation shifts from hiding her past to building a new future. Her central role in the plot involves her knowledge of the curse placed upon the Duke. When Alice and the Duke seek her out for answers, Daleth reveals that the witch who cursed him is dead and that the curse is unbreakable, though she also expresses hatred for that witch without fully explaining her reasons. She eventually burns the Duke's protective cloak during one of their encounters, exposing him to the other witches and forcing a chaotic escape. Her motivations are complex, as she is also connected to Alice's mother, having known her as an acquaintance, and seems to be hiding further information about the past.
The most significant relationship in Daleth's life becomes her connection with Walter, the Duke's younger brother. Walter, who is deeply competitive yet undergoes a journey of redemption, is instrumental in her character development. When Walter accidentally sees her true face, instead of recoiling, he compliments her appearance, an act that gives her the courage to begin overcoming her trauma and to stop hiding behind her mask. This moment sparks a romance between them, leading Daleth to eventually retire as the leader of the witches and begin preparations for a ritual to become human so she can live a normal life with him. Her love for Walter is deep, to the point of pining for him and becoming concerned about his affections toward others. Even when the group faces her sister, Sade, Daleth is torn between her desire for vengeance and the lingering bond of love for her sibling, ultimately choosing to stay out of the conflict in the hope that someone else can save the sister she cannot bring herself to condemn.
As for notable abilities, Daleth is a highly skilled magic user, specializing in illusion magic. She possesses one of the most powerful magical abilities in the series. One of her unique techniques involves observing the human world through the eyes of animals, allowing her to monitor events from a distance without being physically present. Her magical prowess is such that she is recognized as the leader of her world and is capable of performing complex feats of magic.
