Description
King Gomah is a central antagonist from the anime Dragon Ball Daima, who ascends to become the ruler of the Demon Realm. His background is directly tied to the power vacuum created by the death of the previous monarch, Dabura. Prior to becoming king, Gomah served as the Vice-Supreme Demon King under Dabura. Following Dabura’s death at the hands of the monstrous Majin Buu, Gomah is formally declared the new King of the Great Demon Realm by his advisor, Degesu, effectively becoming Dabura’s successor.
In terms of personality, Gomah is depicted as a petty, paranoid, and childishly spiteful ruler. Despite his high station, he is often cowardly and prone to throwing tantrums when events do not unfold according to his plans. His behavior is driven by an intense fear of external threats, specifically the Z-Fighters from Earth, whose immense power he witnesses through a magic monitor. This paranoia leads him to make rash and often self-destructive decisions, as he constantly seeks to secure his fragile hold on power. Unlike the more traditionally imposing and tyrannical Dabura, Gomah is described as a far more pathetic figure, implementing cruel laws against his citizens while lacking the courage to face his enemies directly.
Gomah’s primary motivation throughout Dragon Ball Daima is to eliminate any potential threat to his reign and to cement his absolute authority over the Demon Realm. Upon witnessing Goku and his allies defeat both Dabura and Majin Buu, Gomah becomes terrified that these powerful warriors will invade his realm. Rather than confront them directly, he devises a scheme to use Earth’s Dragon Balls. His wish is to transform everyone who fought against Majin Buu, along with their friends, into children, believing this will render them harmless. A secondary goal, which he regrets not prioritizing, is to acquire the Evil Third Eye, a legendary artifact that grants its user immeasurable power.
In the story’s narrative, Gomah serves as the primary instigator and a major antagonist. After making his wish, he abducts a child-aged Dende, the guardian of Earth’s Dragon Balls, and returns to the Demon Realm to prevent the heroes from reversing the transformation. He spends much of the story observing the heroes’ progress through the Demon Realm from his palace, growing increasingly frantic as they defeat his forces and collect the realm’s own Dragon Balls. His role evolves from a scheming background manipulator to the central physical threat when he finally obtains his desired object of power, the Evil Third Eye.
Key relationships heavily define Gomah’s actions and status. His most crucial ally is Degesu, a high-ranking demon of the Supreme Kai race who serves as his loyal advisor and right hand. Degesu is instrumental in declaring Gomah king and advising him on various matters. Gomah is also secretly opposed by Dr. Arinsu, Degesu’s sister, who manipulates him and has her own agenda regarding the Demon Realm’s throne. He has an antagonistic relationship with the elderly Namekian Neva, whom he coerces into helping him summon Shenron, though he frequently disrespects and ridicules the ancient being. The heroes, led by a child-sized Goku, are his primary enemies, whom he views as existential threats.
Throughout the series, Gomah undergoes significant development from a cunning but anxious bureaucrat into a desperate and power-mad tyrant. Initially content to scheme from a distance, his composure shatters as the heroes successfully overcome every obstacle he places in their path. His growing panic leads him to order the shutdown of the only passage between Demon Realm worlds, a drastic action that isolates his own territory and is compared to self-sabotage. His ultimate transformation occurs when he finally obtains the Evil Third Eye. This artifact, which attaches to his forehead, grants him a massive increase in size and power, transforming him into a towering, near-unstoppable force. In this state, his personality becomes far more confident and brutally aggressive as he directly battles the entire group of heroes, believing himself to be invincible.
Regarding his notable abilities, King Gomah does not demonstrate significant personal power in his base form. He relies primarily on his authority as king, magical artifacts, and his subordinates. However, his capabilities are drastically altered by the Evil Third Eye. When he places this artifact on his forehead, he undergoes a dramatic physical transformation, growing to an enormous size. In this enhanced state, Gomah gains immense strength, speed, and durability, allowing him to effortlessly overpower powerful warriors such as Super Saiyan 3 Goku and Vegeta. The Evil Third Eye also grants him potent regenerative abilities and various magical attacks, such as creating energy-based projectiles. Gomah’s power in this form is so great that it requires a combined effort from the heroes, including Goku’s new transformation, to finally defeat him by forcibly removing the Third Eye from his head.
