Description
Mikihiko Yoshida attends First High School, initially placed in Course 2 before transferring to Course 1 in his second year during a curriculum reshuffle prompted by the new Magic Engineering Course. He holds the position of chief for the Public Morals Committee, taking over from Chiyoda Kanon. Mikihiko belongs to the esteemed Yoshida family, renowned specialists in Ancient Magic who operate outside the Ten Master Clans and Hundred Families. Their expertise centers on traditional Shinto-based Earth Deity magic.

Years prior to enrollment, Mikihiko was regarded as a family prodigy until an accident severely diminished his magical abilities. This event impaired his casting speed and overall proficiency, triggering a loss of confidence and social withdrawal. His struggles originated from mental barriers linked to the accident, causing excessive reliance on Modern Magic and CAD devices for compensation, with limited effectiveness. A childhood attempt to summon a dragon demonstrated his early dedication to mastering complex spirit magic.

Mikihiko commands Divine Earth Magic, a branch of Ancient Magic manipulating earth-based illusions and phenomena. His techniques involve mist-filled barriers for area control, seismic illusions like "Earthshaker" and "Earth Splitter," entanglement spells such as "Wild Hair," sinking illusions via "Antlion's Larval Pit," and gravity nullification with "Wataboushi." Offensively, he channels high-voltage discharges using lightning spells "Thunder Spawn" and "Thunder Child."

In Spirit Magic, Mikihiko excels at summoning and coordinating spirits. He employs "Sense Tuning" to synchronize his senses with spirits, overcoming perception range limits. Advanced methods include disorienting targets via high and low-frequency sound waves in "Echo Maze," and disrupting sensory inputs across an area with "Hexagonal Sense-Tuning Zones." He directly targets spiritual entities using "Exorcism Cut" and "Karura-En."

Mikihiko utilizes a unique hybrid CAD combining traditional charm-based casting with modern technology. It features metal strips engraved with incantations, connected to a forearm device processing Psion waves. This design streamlines Ancient Magic activation but faced regulatory restrictions in competitions, necessitating adaptations to standard CADs.

During the Nine Schools Competition, Tatsuya Shiba identified redundant spell structures, not speed, as the core of Mikihiko's casting issues. Optimizing these spells restored his capabilities, improving his academic standing and enabling the transfer to Course 1. His combat role expanded in the Visitor Arc, deploying barriers and sensory-tuning magic to protect allies during a parasite incursion at First High. In one engagement, he coordinated with Mizuki Shibata; her spiritual perception located an invisible parasite, allowing Mikihiko to target it with "Karura-En" and shield her using "Exorcism Cut."

Characterized by initial shyness and social reluctance, often perceived as aloof, Mikihiko's magical struggles fostered humility and openness to unconventional methods, including Modern Magic study. He gradually develops trust in friends, revealing secrets about his magic. He harbors romantic feelings for Mizuki Shibata, captivated by her unique spiritual perception. His leadership of the Public Morals Committee reflects growing confidence and responsibility.

By his third year, Mikihiko wields significant influence within First High, leveraging both his magical expertise and administrative position without sole reliance on combat abilities.
