TV-Series
Description
Gomah is the primary antagonist of the series, introduced as the newly appointed Supreme Demon King of the Demon Realm. His rise to power follows the death of the previous ruler, Dabra, who was killed by the entity known as Majin Buu. Before claiming the throne for himself, Gomah served as the Vice-Supreme Demon King under Dabra's reign, though the specifics of his duties in that bureaucratic role are not detailed. Upon witnessing the defeat of both Dabra and the original Majin Buu by the Earth-bred warrior Goku, Gomah becomes acutely aware of the immense power held by the Z Fighters and perceives them as a direct threat to his new rule over the Demon Realm.
Physically, Gomah is a demon of notably short stature with distinct, otherworldly features. He has pale white skin, large eyes from which red lines descend, and pointed ears typical of Demon Realm inhabitants. Large, black horns are fused with his head. He typically wears a form-fitting black and red suit with patterns forming an M-shaped insignia, complemented by white gloves and boots. He also dons a white cape, a garment style associated with previous Supreme Demon Kings like Dabra.
Gomah's personality is a complex blend of arrogance, pettiness, and deep-seated paranoia. As a new ruler, he is highly egocentric and carries himself with great pride, often acting with condescension and disrespect towards those around him, especially when he feels secure in his position or empowered by external artifacts. This arrogance, however, quickly gives way to cowardice and panic when situations spiral beyond his control. He is prone to anxiety and paranoia, which directly fuels his poor decision-making. As a governing authority, he rules with an iron fist, demonstrating ruthlessness by imposing heavy taxes on the populace and threatening to extract the equivalent cost from the citizens' life spans if they cannot pay. His reign becomes a classic study in self-destruction, as his desperate and frantic attempts to protect his realm from imagined threats ultimately lead to its near-collapse.
Gomah's central motivation is the consolidation and preservation of his power. Fearful that the warriors who defeated Buu could easily overthrow him, he devises a plan to neutralize them without a direct confrontation. Using Earth's Dragon Balls, he makes a wish to transform Goku and everyone else who fought against Majin Buu into children (or babies, in the case of those already young). He believes this regression in age will significantly weaken them, making them easy to control and eliminating the threat they pose to his dominion. He also orders the shutdown of the Warp-sama, the primary passage to the First Demon Realm, a desperate act intended to isolate his realm but which ultimately harms his own infrastructure more than his enemies.
In the story, Gomah serves as the main obstacle that the protagonists must overcome. After using his wish, he returns to the Demon Realm, taking the Namekian Dende with him to prevent the Earthlings from using their Dragon Balls to reverse the transformation. He observes the progress of Goku and his allies as they journey through the Demon Realm to collect the three necessary Dragon Balls. As his paranoia grows and his plans begin to unravel, he resorts to more extreme measures, eventually obtaining a powerful artifact known as the Evil Third Eye. This act transforms him from a scheming, somewhat comical figure into a colossal and nearly unstoppable physical threat, directly confronting the heroes in an explosive final battle.
His key relationships are primarily defined by his role as ruler. He works closely with Degesu, his loyal confidant and advisor, who assists in his schemes. He is frequently in opposition to Dr. Arinsu, another denizen of the Demon Realm with her own ambitions, and his authority is challenged by the actions of the rogue demon Glorio. He also relies on the elderly Namekian Neva to help locate and utilize the Dragon Balls for his initial wish. Gomah views Goku and the other Z Fighters primarily as existential threats to be neutralized rather than as personal rivals.
Throughout the narrative, Gomah undergoes a notable, if tragic, development. He begins as a cunning but cautious usurper, acting from the shadows with a wish. As the heroes successfully traverse his realm and collect the Dragon Balls despite his efforts, his composure shatters. His paranoia leads him to sabotage his own domain as he becomes desperate to regain the upper hand. His acquisition of the Evil Third Eye gives him godlike power, transforming him into a giant, muscle-bound warrior and triggering a manic overconfidence. However, this power also accelerates his downfall. His inability to land a decisive blow against Goku's Super Saiyan 4 form, combined with the limitless but mindless nature of the Third Eye's regeneration, makes him a force of nature rather than a strategic fighter. His arc ends not with redemption, but with his forced defeat when the Third Eye is removed from his head by three consecutive strikes to the back of his neck, a specific weakness that renders him powerless and leads to his imprisonment.
Regarding his abilities, even in his base form, Gomah should not be underestimated. He is a skilled magic user and possesses several techniques, such as the Gigantic Clash, a physical combo attack; a Magical Barrier similar to the Perfect Barrier; and telekinesis, which allows him to manipulate his environment for offense and defense. He can also fly and fire standard Ki blasts, including variations like the Evil Illusion from his scepter.
His true power is unlocked when he dons the Evil Third Eye on his forehead. This artifact causes a dramatic physical metamorphosis, making him grow to a massive size, his body becoming far more muscular, and his magical power skyrocketing. In this state, he becomes the most powerful being in the Demon Realm, easily overwhelming Super Saiyan 2 Goku, Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta, and Piccolo simultaneously with simple telekinetic force and energy attacks like the Magic Explosion, a colossal sphere of purple and white energy. His physical strength is immense, and his speed allows him to keep pace with high-level Saiyan transformations. The Third Eye's most potent ability is near-limitless regeneration; Gomah can instantly recover from any wound, including having a massive hole blasted through his torso, and never seems to tire. The only known way to defeat him in this form is to strike the back of his head three times in quick succession, a blow that forces the Evil Third Eye to detach. Without this artifact, his power reverts to his base level, leaving him vulnerable.
