TV-Series
Description
Nodoka Ōtani is a first-year student at Gozenbashi High School and a main character in the series. She has ochre hair, green eyes, stands 155 centimeters tall, and was born on May 5 with blood type O. Her name and demeanor both evoke the idea of tranquility, which matches her deep appreciation for calm and stability. She is passionate about yoga, Indian culture, and philosophy, often quoting or reflecting on philosophical ideas. Her personal motto is peace and tranquility, and she generally dislikes events that stir up strong emotions or disrupt her sense of order. Despite this, she is frequently thrown into chaotic situations by her energetic childhood friend Anna Aveiro, who often drags her into unpredictable adventures. Nodoka also has a vivid imagination and a tendency to fall into elaborate, Bollywood-style daydreams at the slightest provocation, which provides a source of comedy in the group dynamic.

Her primary motivation is to maintain a quiet, uneventful life, but her loyalty to her friends and her innate desire to support them push her beyond her comfort zone. She becomes a member of the cheerleading group PoMPoMs, which is formed by Kanata Misora and Suzuha Obunai, alongside Anna, Shion Tanizaki, and Megumi Kaionji. Within the team, Nodoka often acts as a grounded voice of reason, though her own imaginative flights sometimes undermine that role. Her involvement in cheerleading challenges her preference for calm and forces her to engage with physically demanding and emotionally charged activities, leading to personal growth as she learns to balance her need for peace with the energy of the group.

Her closest relationship is with Anna Aveiro, who has been a friend since childhood. Anna’s outgoing and sometimes overwhelming personality stands in direct contrast to Nodoka’s reserved nature, yet the two share a deep bond. Nodoka also develops meaningful connections with the other PoMPoMs members, each of whom brings a different perspective that helps her open up and become more involved in their shared goal of supporting others. Over the course of the story, Nodoka gradually becomes more comfortable with stepping out of her shell and participating in the group’s cheerleading activities, though she remains the most reluctant member. Her journey involves learning that supporting others does not have to come at the cost of her own peace, and that her unique temperament has value within the team.

Her notable abilities include a strong knowledge of yoga, which contributes to her physical flexibility and balance, qualities that prove useful in cheerleading routines. She also possesses a sharp, analytical mind that helps her understand and discuss philosophical concepts, and her calm demeanor makes her a reliable presence during tense moments, even if she occasionally gets lost in her own thoughts. Nodoka’s favorite foods are medicinal hotpot and Indian curry, while she strongly dislikes mutton. These details paint a picture of a character who values harmony and introspection but is continually drawn into a lively world of friendship and support.
